I miss the days of private servers and people generally not giving a fuck.
It's all so pointless (yes, I know they have their nefarious reasons) too! There's a fucking mute button. Someone being a jackass to you, and you don't feel like dealing with it? There's an easy solution. Devs should only be going after things like cheaters, griefers , repeat teamkillers (if applicable in that game), etc. People that are intentionally ruining the game experience for others, and for which there isn't a one-button solution.
Sometimes it's also a response by companies to try to adhere to regionally selective laws that try to shove hate speech laws down every company's throat and assume culpability. Usually the EU as a whole or specific EU countries.
However I do believe that all the online harassment propaganda being shoved in our faces over this is just a smokescreen for the larger glowie op going on in the background where they're trying to harvest data on gamers in a desperate search for white supremacists and incels.
They're definitely doing that on internal government systems, so it would stand to reason that if they can get their tendrils into other systems they'd do the same there as well.
This reminds me of the xbox 360 days where people would complain up and down of all the bad people saying bad things.
You could mute anyone by highlighting their name and hitting mute.
There was a way to hear only your team's voice chat. It's one page behind the audio settings.
There was a way to hear only those you have in your friend list. This setting was also one page behind the audio settings.
It was in the console, so it wasn't per game, you only ever had to do this once and you'd never hear anyone again if you didn't add them to your friend list, or they were not in the lobby.
But it was never enough. They didn't want you muted, they wanted you banned.
It's always and forever shall be about power and control over others.
It honestly astonishes me that the most frat bro game in history is being turned into such a faggy safe space. There are literally like 50 different pride flags you can choose from on your calling card, half the female operators (like they would be effective IRL) look like lesbians, and now we have reddit jannies monitoring voice chat. I guarantee they won't ban any of the black dudes saying nigga, but they will ban a white voice, and if they do accidentally ban a black dude, he will get the "community" to riot over it.
Planetside 2 is probably one of the few multiplayer games where I actually found the in-game voicechat to be not only useful but enjoyable. There's been a few others of course, but that one has always stood out for me.
What a bunch of faggots.

How is the AI going to distinguish between white kids dropping N-bombs to be edgy and black kids calling each other nigga?
And then more articles a month after that calling them racist because of the disproportionate numbers of black players being banned.
By checking what account is saying it and linking to your credit card.
Free speech chat on multiplayer games made me the man I am today.
Censorship creates fragility.
You'll probably cause the AI to self delete itself by listening to the retardation and squeakers in a regular COD lobby..
there's no such thing as "hate speech". literally kill yourselves activision you worthless commie fucks.
Cue: South Park: Sarcastaball
Sooo, what's stopping people from making innocuous words hate speech according to the AI? Or are they just going to start banning every Euphemism?
Will they come after the joggers and the riggers too?
How do they define hate speech?
Anything not against white people.
I guess no one will demand chocolate milk from their mom...

I use discord even on console.

It's about shutting down avenues for speech
