Almost literally the same shit happened earlier this year in Germany in Hamburg.
Some "Streetwear" (read: overpriced ghetto clothing) company wanted to do a giveaway. They didn't bring enough free shit so about 400 "youths" decided to riot and attack police.
Found this footage just on the scale of the chimp out over a PS5 giveaway, I heard about this while listening to a mechwarrior stream and it was just full wtf is wrong with blue cities that you'll go full zombie over a giveaway.
Police looked like they were WAY over their heads and the only good thing is influencers might stop trying to do giveaways like this in person and stick to delivery to address only.
He's apparently a prank YouTuber, which immediately makes me more suspicious of his motives. "Dumbass invites barbarian hordes to Union Square, riot ensues when he runs out of PS5s" would still be negligent, but I can easily believe that he did this knowing what he was unleashing.
Didn't that ice-poseidon guy do a similar thing a few years back involving air travel, where he got a friend to call the police on him as he was boarding a flight saying he had a bomb, just so he could get attention and a free plane ticket? For me all of this would be solved if authorities cracked down more on the stuff, like what they did over here where a kid got 5 years in jail for masquerading as a subway employee and posting on facebook that "no nigs are welcome at this place", causing more than 30 black people to firebomb said location.
The only thing I can say in defense is Union Square is meant to hold a bunch of people. It's not like he was inviting them to a house. Mainly, I think he's an asshole as are most YT/TikTok pranksters.
The cops being like "there's too many people" in NYC at a tourist attraction is a bit much for me. I understand they were inconvenienced. Reacting to what happens in the streets is their job.

Even generally well-behaved people will eventually cause a problem as crowd density increases, but these weren't generally well-behaved people. Generally well-behaved people aren't dropping everything at an hour's notice during office hours to go to Union Square because a black prank YouTuber is giving away free shit.
Yeah, I read about that. I figured it was a mass chimpout but I didn't bother digging around to confirm it. The influencer got arrested for inciting the riot, which is well deserved since he didn't plan on following through. He'll probably just get a slap on the wrist. It's not like he challenged an election that the Democrats stole or anything.
There is one thing that will come out of this incident that has been growing as of late both in the US and abroad - the concept that you are responsible for the rhetoric and behaviour of others even if you disavow or dissuade that speech or behaviour. While no-one will give any sympathy for Kai, this concept has been applied (Alex Belfield in the UK, Andrew Tate and Donald Trump and January 6th) and will be applied in future to politicians and influencers.
I also note Sky News has been nosy in his content and in their last line of the article, are painting him as a misogynist.
I mean, yeah,, but it really looks like a lot of the yoofs just wanted to riot anyway, quite honestly...
Like, the way it is being described in the media is a bit... Iffy, but I think it is more that they got a bunch of angry, easily influenced teens in the one place, all competing over a small amount of expensive shit that they were probably never going to receive, and then... The inevitable happened.
I honestly think that they would have done the same with any incitement, not just something like this...
Pokemon Go was a bright shining miracle of the integration of the digital and the real. Everyone was excited to see other people out and about (just not on their private property) and parks and neighborhoods were so filled with people for weeks you'd think there were block parties every day. Nowadays when I play, I get scathing looks for being on my phone instead of enjoying the nature around me, even though it's the game that takes me outside in the first place. Big sad.
There were some very strict rules about the game and theme parks.
I honestly wonder if a nefarious group worked to stop it's popularity because of how much it connected and unified the world. Nintendo caused world peace.
I really don't understand the streamer phenomenon at all. Even here, if you wander off to the frontpage of scored.co, there are endless posts from a community called "IP2Always" and it's just a bunch of white trash junkies doing white trash junkie things. I clicked on one of their posts recently and it was a clip of a dude huffing nitrogen oxide out of a balloon and having a seizure - all streamed. I mean, what? I go to Kiwifarms so I'm no stranger to watching retards do retarded things, but what I really don't understand is - what possesses the streamers to do this? They're killing themselves for a community that appears to openly hate them and cheer for their deaths.
They will use this to go after Trump. He didn't tell them to riot, but he's been arrested for inciting a riot. Trump didn't tell the protectors to be violent, but he's being arrested for the protestors actions.
It's a dumb precedent. The issue is clearly the rotting culture among the people on the riot.....

Import the third world, become the third world.

I wonder what the 30 black people who firebombed said location got?
An apology.

They also jumped on cars, raided a construction site, stole tools and rocks and attacked the cops…
But yeah, just a “peaceful gathering”… 🙄

Forgot to say that this was in Manhattan. Right in the centre of NYC. Because of course it was...
Good day out for the Harlem types (though most probably came from outside the Big Apple, at a guess), once again...
Joy of joys.
I guess the old saying “if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is” comes into play here

That’s true
The reason why I chose to move to Florida was a video of the police handling rioters well enough that it was stopped.
Remember a few years ago when Pokemon Go caused peace throughout the world?

The cops are absolutely to blame for not having stopped any of the previous rioting.
Real life streamers and content makers are such douche bags..
