Forza Motorsport Single-Player Mode Revealed: Car Leveling, Car Points, Online Saves, & More
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lNR2Kk_f4YThe core single-player mode of Forza Motorsport has been revealed in a special Forza Monthly stream, with the studio's creative Chris Esaki explaining the all-new approach: "level, build, dominate".As a whole, the...
Because it worked so well for Gran Turismo 7, Diablo III, SimCity, etc.
Furthermore, people on GTPlanet are actually defending this because cell phones are connected to the Internet and several other games do it.
All I know is that when the servers go offline one day because the servers either shut down or get overwhelmed, I won't have sympathy for those who still choose to buy it.
They had their chance to vote with their wallet and say they don't want it. To think that some people think multi-billion dollar corporations are their friends...
And the pirates always find a way to break the DRM.
Oh, BUt iT prEveNtS ChEatInG, the fanboys say.
Like, how do you know that? What's your proof that it stopped the cheating?
(I don't mean you, yourself literally, BTW)
Who cares about cheating in a single player game, anyway? It's not like they're affecting anyone but themselves anyway. Especially if they wait until a second playthrough or so to break out the gameshark.
I never cared about "achievements" or "trophies" when playing these games, personally.
I was just stoked to be playing a game that celebrates the amazing sport my heroes at Le Mans, Indy, Daytona, etc. get to compete in for real and drive all sorts of cars with different drivetrains, designs, etc.
I always preferred to play the game at my own pace on my terms. Bragging rights like those just weren't for me.
And yet the only way to be sure is to be streaming the game from the server (Still you can hack the input to some extent so still not one hundred procent, for that you need to own it all from client to server). Still is good that the internet is not good enough for it to be the norm but I see the normies using it more and more.
I don't hate achievements, but only as sort of a log of what I've done because I've played so many games.
Still, I've cheated at tons of single player stuff and no shame for it. Games are for my entertainment and not to measure myself up against others. The achievement whores can piss off if they think cheating in single player is a problem to that. I've cheated in some online too, but just to beat a grind in a not PVP game. Who cares?
But, all those achievements and bragging rights on reddit, would be invalid...
Still think that even multiplayer should go back to self hosted dedicated servers and then the game if it is any good can live forever and people can form their own groups/server where their jannies bans the suspected cheaters.
I'm always for giving the user options but having a easy default (cause we both know that many are retarded, but their less retarded friends can help them with the more advanced stuff) so that sounds great to me.
It is sad that gog is going the way of globohomo, since they usually kept separate exe versions for their games, and steam does as something similar aswell but it is up to each dev.
Regarding the modularity, I think in the past the multiplayer and single player of game engine were almost the same with the difference being that single player started a local server in which you then hosted the single player content (atleast fps did it), So it is valid tactic (not sure why it was ended) only perhaps MMOs are the ones that you cannot do that.
EDIT:
It is the corpo mindset, and i mean the elite hackers and their autism can decrpyt denvo and other stuff from assembly xD, Only way to stop them is to not run any code on client.
Steam had that back in the day. Tons of mods used it. Most modern games do not have that though.
Yup, anyone supporting this is an idiot. Microsoft shut down Forza 7 not too long ago. I thankfully got all the DLC and downloaded everything to my hard drive.
Last I checked, I could still play the game even though support has ended. And I still have my save progress (for now). But with the new Forza, WHEN (and it is a matter of when) Microsoft shuts down the game, you lose everything.
Exactly. Anyone with common sense knows that those servers ain't staying up forever.
Try telling that to the shills on any comments section or forums for these games, though, and they shut you down.
Their collective meltdown will move mountains when the game gets permanently shut down.
Honestly I think we've made enough video games and it's time to stop.
I'm tempted to just focus on seeing how I can play the great racing games of yesteryear and maybe get their accompanying DLC like Project Gotham, Forza Motorsport 4, Enthusia, Racing Gears Advance, Blur, etc.
Perhaps I can take solace in how there are plenty of older games to keep me entertained for like 10 lifetimes.
Gran Turismo 2 is my all time favorite...but it's really old at this point. Loved Forza 4. Never could get into Project Gotham.
You ever tried Assetto Corsa? If you're in to modding at all that game is where it's at. There are loads of cars and tracks you can download from mod sites to race or roam around on.
I've never modded a game as I don't have a gaming PC, unfortunately.
I did play F1 2001 & 2002 from EA Sports as well as Sports Car GT, NFS Porsche Unleashed, and Dirt Track Racing 2 on a relative's 2004 era Toshiba laptop, though. I had a good time with them and they played a big role in getting me into real motorsports.
I've heard good things about Assetto Corsa. It's apparently available for consoles, too.
How is that version?
I have the Xbox version. It's a fine game but lacks the modding potential. I don't think it has a career mode like you'd expect in a lot of games but the realism is top notch. Still, I'd only recommend it when on sale with all the DLC packs. Usually less than 10 bucks for it all.
Question:
Do you guys think that turning their games into spyware raises the company's ESG score?
I don't ever remember anyone actually saying "Yes, take away my ability to play and save the game anytime I want," yet this is apparently normal.
I love how one of those clowns on GTPlanet said that it's okay because e-mail and cell phones exist.
Yeah, they're totally the same thing as a video game designed to primarily to entertain.
Do these people think evangelizing greedy developers like this gets them VIP access or something? Microsoft likely doesn't even know they exist.
From a corpo point of view a game which has no end of life built into it is a product you have to compete with forever.
The only ESG i can see but it is a bit farfetched is that a central of the communication ensures that wrong-think can be destroyed at will with the everchanging rules. But I do not remember that being a explicit point of their point system.
Agreed, but always-online has two other advantages as well.
First, it lets the devs get a ton of additional analytics as to how often features are used, how the game's actually being played, etc. Now, that could - and occasionally is - used to actually improve the game, but seemingly more often these days it's used for the second advantage - micro-transactions.
By making the game always-online, you can splash the store page at the players every single time they want to play at all and you get more eyes on whatever the deal-of-the-day (or week or whatever) is. And by spamming people with the ads over and over and over it increases the chances of someone's will wavering and then you get another $2-5 or whatever a skin costs.
You are a bit outdated with the pricing. goes to about 10 these days xD
Other than that you can also prep your commercial in advance or just have them baked into the updates themselves, ofc you don't get the telemetry data and the forced updates on the clients. But overall I agree.
Fair enough on the price, I haven't paid attention to most MTX pricing in a while.
While you can have commercials baked into updates and such, if the client is offline that does add in a couple other complications though. First, there's no guarantee that the ad will actually load (especially if the user legitimately has no internet). Second, and more importantly, though - if you are in offline mode, then to make the purchase you're going to have to exit the game, switch to online mode, relaunch the game and then go to the store. That's a lot of time for the user to overcome the impulse purchase urge compared to the one or two button presses that are required if you're online.
I do agree with this but even with internet there are methods to ensure that the ad is not launched (called modding/hacking). Just being pedantic.
Yep, lots of nice tricks you use these days to keep people closer to an addict rather then customer. The one I like the best is the virtual currency cause it keeps the thought away from real money and your account spending, ensure that there is almost no legal way to get a refund and makes the impulse transaction short and sweet.
Microsoft confirmed no MTX.
I can't help but remember how Sony at first confirmed this for GT Sport, only to sneak them in at a later date.
Activision did the same thing with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.
You just can't trust AAA developers at their word anymore.
DLC by definition is a microtransaction, so this is probably gonna always have some sort of grey area.
From the article:
I don't think DLC for extra content and pre-order bonuses count as microtransactions.
That's a good point. Nintendo both uses Mario and competes against Mario with every game. Most companies don't want to do that.
Piracay won't protect us forever as more avenues to it get blocked off or become more risky/time consuming. Always online like steam allows them to edit and change your games whenever they feel like it to remove problematic content.
I can play GT2 for PSX on my RG351MP handheld. Gimmie something strong enough to run Here Comes the Pain and I'm gucci mang.
Well. Not buying it then. I like playing offline.
Rip, staying on 7.
Finally, the end of the black Jetta.
