My 14-year-old daughter considered classes at the local studio, but her packed schedule and visibly packed leotard both served as deterrents. I can think of other barriers as well, like not having a womb, or periods, or a functional vagina, or being able to obtain sex/attraction from people who are attracted to biological women rather than trans women...
In a sane world, that child could dance ballet as a male performer since men do participate in ballet too. But by my reading of the article, the boy's interest in ballet started when the trooning happened. That makes me think that he latched onto ballet because it's seen as a "girly" activity, rather than a genuine interest in the art.
