If I can compare this to Ukraine and Afghanistan to see a pattern it does bring me to this conclusion:
The current US administration is either unwilling or unable to use US military force DIRECTLY to an opponent, only able to fight indirectly. This is extremely bad news for Taiwan (which is why they need all those weapons they ordered from the US) as they can't rely on the US to back them up under the current administration and should focus on an alliance with Japan and South Korea.
It also explains Afghanistan as they pulled out troops WELL before the new deadline and according to leaks, were extremely hesitant to take out a suicide bomber which lead to the deaths of US soldiers and civilians. They're fine throwing weapons at Ukraine but using effective use of their own military personnel, they seem extremely hesitant, probably because they think of bad pr before any other objective.

Ukraine never asked for any personnel, just for weapons. That come extremely slow and few, for the American fear of "escalation" (despite nothing happening when they do expand aid eventually), which includes for example not only still refusing giving any fighters but even blocking the Polish transfer of Polish fighters (for full year, until this March). So again, no one even wants any American personnel (beyond Polish and Baltic or Slovak or Romanian borders).
They didn't steal it. They're just borrowing it to clean out that filthy filthy cargo hold with all that harmful fossil fuel.
Can you imagine the amount of CO2 that would have been released by burning that oil? They're literally saving the climate right now! It's practically self defense!
That crew better start practicing their falsetto voices if they're going to pull off pretending to be trans so this regime would ever consider a deal that frees them.
There's an excellent book out there about where this trend is going: The End of the World Is Just the Beginning. When Pax Americana ends and the U.S. Navy no longer protects worldwide shipping, most economies are going to utterly collapse.
The Constitution does still allow for the issuance of Letters or Marque and Reprisal, but expecting Congress to issue one of those in $Current_YEAR is a long shot...
One of the crew posted a racially insensitive tweet in 2013 so the US doesn't want the entire crew back.
The tanker itself is covered in rainbow flags and half the hull has been replaced with environmentally sustainable materials that are corroding already.
An extinction rebellion protestor has also managed to sabotage the cargo before leaving port so the oil itself is useless too.

As for American volunteers, https://archive.is/C4o4e
It's almost like the democrats want to destroy america/the west or something.
Who could have ever seen this coming.

Iran will pay for their transition surgery. They have a weird thing with that. If you transition it's not gay, apparently.
That's just a nice way of saying "Iran castrates homosexuals under threat of death."
True

We'll need to bring back Privateers.

I wonder if China's use of the Belt and Road program to build naval bases in Africa had anything to do with these concerns.
Jokes on Iran.

Checkmate bigots.
Begun the tanker wars have.
Russian billionaires want their super yachts back and Syria wants its oil fields back.
