This tweet is bullshit and the news article they link references the previous government, so it's obviously old. A lot of dumb shit gets recommended to the government in various reports, doesn't mean it gets legislated.
Sadly, the police in Australia can already access your social media with a warrant, and can even edit and delete posts if you're the subject of an ongoing investigation, as part of anti-terrorism laws that were passed last year. It was supported by both major political parties, so they are both a bunch of cunts IMO.
Thanks for the tip. The question now is when do they plan to do this? I expect it's only a matter of time for the country that's already built camps and stomped on protestors.
Ha. But yeah, unironically, I wouldn't be all that surprised if I get a "knock on my door", one of these days, or similar, lol...
Though my posts and comments are so... Schiz, that I suppose they wouldn't have to change that much to convincingly "glow post" if they seized my accounts or whatever, lol.
And she's just so casually introducing it like it's a normal state of affairs. They're speaking on it as if it's necessary absolutely necessary for the future and safety of the world and not about people just talking to each other. They act as if social media is the most divine right of all humanity and it must be protected in its sacredness. This insanity is used by all authoritarian regimes including China and Iran.
It would be funny if all this was a colossal bait and switch, where subversive leftists implement these systems that the Right would eventually strong-arm their way into controlling.
Why do you think the establishment opposition takes little to no actual action against it (short of scary words and empty speeches)?
They're salivating at the opportunity to really take these levers of power for a spin. The left is too stupid and narcissistic to really take advantage of what they have seized.
I considered posting this story last week but I couldn't find any actual articles talking about it. What I did find was articles from last year talking about the above as proposed laws and not laws that were in effect.
Also I found multiple twitter accounts that just copy-pasted the above or variations of it. Seemed a bit sus.
Big if true but it was strange I couldn't find any recent articles about it.
Scott Morrison was the previous PM, so this clip is more than six months old. It's still shit that there are people who support this both in government and the media, but I can't guarantee it hasn't already failed.
Aussie here.

Thanks for clarifying. A couple other users here noticed the same thing thing.
Still, the fact that it's even being entertained is scary.
Yeah, the context added box says that this was a parliamentary recommendation from April of 2021, but was never followed up on.
It’s still a good reminder to value online privacy (fuck you Jordan Peterson) and to be vigilant on encroachment by the government.
something of a pattern in the free and democratic west, isn't it

This is why you don’t give up your guns…
And suddenly we never hear from Bamboozler1 again?
And nothing of value was lost.

But hey, "anonymity" (for now, anyway)...

Aussiepussy in action:
A whore of Babylon, for the historically inclined.

Good! Let’s see how people act when the dopamine drip feeds turn off.
They will do whatever the government tells them in order to turn it back on.
