Tldr: so far its god of wars 'the last jedi'
Non story stuff: gameplay, at least so far, is literally 1 to 1 with the previous game. Not bad per se but they could have improved some things- better options for dealing with enemies in blind spots notably. That said it might be a banjo tooie thing where ill get abilities to do that. Im only like 3 hrs in
Its borderline cuphead like as ive hit multiple set piece bosses already and i feel like exploration has taken a hard backseat.
Most enemies are boring humans instead of the interesting and unique draughr from the last game
Spoilers (though i have to say im shocked how early some of this happened)
The story, so far, is dumb. Full stop.
Kratos is at multiple times inferred to be an angry and uselss old man who needs to be lectured about how violence and killing is wrong, how he doesnt know what hes doing and how atreus is seeking knowlege kratos cant provide. This happens frequently, including by his dead wife who speaks in modern language, insults him to his face calls him "good boy" like an obedient puppy. This is in a flashback and the implication if there will be many many more like it. In real life "Consequences for your violence" are shown, shaming the player.
Both odin and thor show up at his house and act like lame early 00s gangsters and they too speak in modern language In painfully long cutscenes followed by a painfully long bossfight with no payoff. Odin, if he is supposed to be threatening, is a complete dud. I miss anthony hopkins
We havent even got to the diversity characters yet but with loki turning into animals i cant wait to find out all about the environment and how reducing carbon emissions could have prevented the fimbulwinter before kratos is ultimately killed as im sure he will be as this seems like that kind of game
That is the feeling I'm getting as well. It is a full violence is wrong, war is wrong etc etc. And you can tell that a lot of the dialogue was written by women. There is also to much dialogue, another trait associated with women.
It's not just the obvious grrrrl power, it's the language itself. Anachronistic current year speak
Lines like 'our enemies strike in the night, we must be ready for them' butting against 'were gonna take down the gods. You follow me?'
I can't tell you how much I've come to hate that trope.
Also, If Fey was in any earlier GoW game she would be one of the people kratos reflexively stabs for a health pickup
If you still can, refund it.
Who needs Anthony Hopkins when you can have Anthony Burch?
How many Afro-Nords have you encountered thus far?
It looks like the black viking insert is later in the game.
None yet.
Surprised it passed the RE5 racism discussion event flag if true
SMS is filled to the brim with diversity hires. Also
Is he involved? Fuck
I’m still pissed off at how Angrboda is blackwashed (and apparently she isn’t the only one).
Just read his review. He's spot on so far.
If he us a good reviewer can you post his review channel or name?
Ill wait until it comes to PC. That'll give it time for people to post all their experiences and weed out any issues before I bother.
I played a bit of God of War 2018. When I had to punch the first boss roughly two hundred times, I honestly thought it was bugged. When regular enemies required 20+ hits to kill, I thought maybe the difficulty was set to “damage sponge”.
Nope. The game literally uses each individual fight to pad the run time. And the best part is when you engage combat finishers after smacking an enemy for 20 seconds. You have to hit a zombie fifteen times with your axe before you can… behead him with your axe.
Literally retarded gameplay. But people swallow that shit when it looks nice.
Just watching people play the first hour or so of it has warned me off putting any money towards this. Maybe when it hits fire sale levels of around $5 I'll impulse buy it. Definitely not throwing away $69 on it, though.
I watched some cutscenes and thought it looked good and was interesting enough, but I got the same vibes as you do playing.
It's like what we all feared the first new God of War would be with Kratos endlessly being womansplained how violence is wrong. That game was a pleasant surprise, this is the opposite.
Kratos should take his kid to a brothel. Kinda like in Married with Children where Al Bundy taking Bud to the strip club to pass on his tricks. Or in HBO rome where titus pullo takes young octavius to a brothel to lose his virginity.
Modern language?
You mean like how males now speak with effeminate lisps or something?
From “I WILL PAINT THE HALLS OF VALHALLA IN YOUR BLOOD”
To “oh sweetie, oh honey, that axe is just SO yooooo 😱😍”
I guess another reason I'm glad I just ended up ditching the PS4 and selling high when those things were worth almost $300 even after the PS5 was out. This game would have been one of the big reasons I was hanging on to it. I guess instead I'll play it in 2030 when the PC release is out and they've finally put it on sale for $5.
That's how I play all my games. 👌
I've gone that way for everything single player for sure over the last 5 years. I will stretch a bit for multiplayer, but that's just for more time spent with friends.
I played the intro until the bear fight and I'm already fucking bored. It's the same game.
The description of the game on the back of the box makes it sound more like a Hallmark movie than any kind of action game. That was the first thing I noticed. I agree witht he rest of your take here but ill give it the benefit of the doubt for now.
Gameplay isnt improved from the first game but good enough that ill keep playing until something horribly offensive happens. I do think the game feels harder than the last one, way too many enemies 2 shotting you from off screen.
Whenever I read this, I picture someone on their knees, facing a wall, rifle to the back of his head, comically shrugging.
Its a video game, bruh. Last game was not woke so its a reasonable assumption.
Having watched some of a playthrough of it, the story seemed linear, and it was up to you to explore. That seems fine to me. You aren't forced to just do bosses. Look around.
I took a lot of the discussion (to where I've seen, I'd say between 6 and 10 hours depending on how thorough you are at exploring) seemed to be more about Kratos acknowledging war isn't always the right answer, and that Atreus should learn from mistakes made from both himself and Kratos.
His dead wife talking was a bit much the way she did.
Odin/Thor talking the way they do is also, frankly, retarded. Odin more so. I like the actor and how he's portraying him (voice wise), but the writing is terrible.
In short, not worth full price if you want to buy it, wait for it to hit 30$ (or less).
Well it depends on your definition of “lady”...
