Yeah, aren't nearly all commercially sold bananas one highly vulnerable subspecies (for lack of a better word) that is already scarily vulnerable to diseases?
Plant. They are all clones/cultivars of the same plant. One does not make a species. The plants are being selectively bred, however, to produce a new offspring so it can cross pollinate with itself or another species to make it stronger.
Yes, I remember this. Back in the day, there was a Creationist who made the argument that the banana was evidence for Creation. Critics pointed out that it all falls apart if you replace the grocery store banana with a wild one.

Are you comparing selective breeding done over generations to some guy in a lab trying to make plants taste like meat?
There are no laboratories or research done on growing plants that taste like meat. And laboratory research on plants changes far less genes than selective breeding or interbreeding. Oranges comes from tangerines and lemons crossbreeding. You would never have oranges without that.
Your logic also dictates no sweet potato consumption, since sweet potato is a breed between a bacteria and potato.
We had sweet potatoes 5000 years ago, we just used selective breeding to get the modern version like everything we grow and cultivate now.

5000 years of a bacterial use on a potato. And the people who cross bred this species to existence were the scientists of the past. Albeit the sweet potato came to be more without human intervention. Like I said, you have been eating them for a millenia and no problem whatsoever.

Oh, none of that is sarcastic except the last part about screaming. That's how the entire thing went. Some nut screaming about things they don't understand while mentioning truths that contradict what they are saying.
GMO is not bad in and of itself. GMO is the only way to feasibly save the Cavendish in the near future. The breeding program to naturally select for healthier varieties is still in development and the natural resistance is still weak in comparison to the fungal pathogen that is wiping it out.
