I live in a blue shithole and I'm looking to get out. It's still a step above Commieforina but the writing is on the wall. We're going to be a mini San Francisco 20 years ago from now. It should go without saying that I don't vote blue now and I sure as shit won't start when I flee this dystopia.
I'm looking for suggestions on where to move to. Good gun laws and a reasonable cost of living (especially in real estate) are the two big things I'm looking for. I'm planning to work remotely so I won't need to stay where the work is if things go to plan. Ideally I'd buy a plot of land in the middle of nowhere and build on it, but my need for internet access will restrict how far away from the nonsense I can get. I suspect parts the South would be a good cultural fit as long as they're okay with me not being actively religious, but I don't deal with heat and humidly very well.
I've plugged the Strategic Relocation book before, but it's sitting on my shelf and is a good resource as to what sorts of things to think about when making this sort of decision. I've also found PDFs of the older Third Edition floating around the internet if you don't want to drop the coin. The major difference between the Third and Fourth edition is the Fourth was published after the 2020 WuFlu shit and has been updated to reflect the various states' reactions to it.
Though one of the things that book (and pretty much everyone who thinks about such things) ignores is the long-term demographic changes of what sort of people are moving to certain places. For example Northern Idaho is probably in the top 5 of my personal list (Randy Weaver lived there for a reason), but the massive influx of people moving to Idaho from more left-wing places (eg. California) makes it a bit of a wildcard in the long term if you expect to spend the rest of your days living in a "Red state"
Another thing to consider is that, if we continue to see a breakdown of centralized authority and order, things like "gun laws" matter a lot less than whether you can come to an understanding with your neighbors and/or your local sheriff. It might be instructive to look at how such things work in Central and South America. And in that case things like "Blue state" or "Red state" matter a lot less than living someplace where there's a lot of open land, a largely self-sufficient population, and aren't a lot of prying eyes (or if there are prying eyes it's to find out if they can help you do whatever it is you're doing.
Anyways that's my two cents, speaking as someone who had similar thoughts last year but started coming around to my current way of thinking (partially motivated by thoughts of "I'm tired of running" and "got to make a stand somewhere").
Idaho has gotten very expensive, especially the greater Boise area. There are reports of it having the most overinflated housing market in the country.
Yeah Idaho is basically following the same path that Oregon and Washington went down.
Join an uncucked church anyway and show up once a week. The connections and relationships are a big deal. And the commies hate it.
Stop being a pussy and maybe lose some weight. Humans are built to acclimate. Dont limit yourself because of petty shit. Also air conditioning exists.
How to find one? I'm in a southern state and can't seem to find anything except jew lovers.
gotta shop around and that might mean sucking up some driving distance for a more rural location
also have to compromise a bit, even if it isn't 100% in synch with your personal values its still a good networking opportunity
True. I've gotta compromise a bit
Look into Starlink to expand your internet options if nothing else is available where you want to move.
The South being obnoxious bible thumpers is a completely exaggerated image made up by leftists, or at least a very old stereotype. These days nobody gives a shit if you aren't a churchgoer. (maybe nobody caring is what caused the social decay...)
Heat is going to be part of the deal though. Going further north maybe West Virginia?
As a Kansan: HAAAAHAAAAHAAAA! Thats a great joke.
Being more serious for a second, Kansas gets both extremes due to us being centrally located in the continent. It can easily hit the 100's during the summer, with heats so high I know people who used their cars for baking (as in, stick it in the back seat and give it a few hours). Then winter comes and its -20 and snowed 3 inches.
But I have found that that helps to keep the rabble out, since your typical SJW's dont want to have to deal with extreme weather conditions.
I suppose. All I know is that a lot of people from outside the state that I have talked to say it gets unreasonably hot, and even a lot of people who are from here. I am the weirdo among a lot of people I know for being able to tolerate the heat, because they cant stand it when it gets into the 90's and 100's.
This is true. Up here in Washington, even when it's 90+ I rarely burn. Whereas in the Southwest I burn pretty easily.
Also notice that with sunglasses: I never need them up here even on sunny days, but down there I do.
No, I was born in the South and you are correct, the sun is way more intense here than in the North.
I work outside and sunblock is mandatory or I can actually feel the radiation from the sun cooking my skin.
I know it’s not the heat alone because it peaks when the sun is highest and then calms down later, even if the temperature is only a degree or two different.
Is it humid or more of a dry heat? As long as it doesn't reach Las Vegas/Phoenix type temperatures I can deal with that.
Depends. Western Kansas (Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, Goodland, etc) is dry heat. Eastern Kansas, where I am (Salina, Abilene, Manhattan, Topeka, Kansas City, etc) is more humid, but not obnoxiously so unless there has been recent rain.
Also, if you do end up coming to Kansas, DO NOT go to Lawrence. Its local reputation is as "Portland on the Plains" because for whatever reason all of the crazies got attracted to KU, while sparing all of the other universities (I went to K-State, and I had profs that were openly conservative and mocked commies on a regular basis).
It can still be good to visit because there is a lot of history wrapped up there due to its attachment to the events of Bleeding Kansas (and I am sure the SJW type got attracted partially because of John Browns association to the city), but if you are running from the Leftist, its not a great place to go.
KS: Snow and cold in the winter, fierce storms and tornadoes in the spring, oppressive heat and humidity in the summer, and whitetail/ antelope/ elk season.
Everybody is all gung-ho about Texas but I'm not much of a fan; it's just toooo hot and I never want to see another fire ant as long as I live. Food's good though.
I'd move to Montana if I could, but sadly medical services there are extremely limited.
We made an excursion to Florida to check it out last winter, but the parts that I like are way beyond my price range.
Gulf coast states are steamy, bug ridden, and poor. The rust belt is still rusty. New Hampshire might be a civilized option.
Bozeman MT is starting to show all the signs...coffee shops with effeminate "men" wearing an ironic scarf indoors with a beanie and thick-rimmed glasses, and that voice (you what I'm talking about)...etc.
I was looking in Sioux Falls, SD and I was seeing the same thing there too. Of course, the further away from cities you go, the more based it becomes, but be sure to factor in drive times and cost when you go looking for groceries.
If I had the money I’d get a summer house in Montana. I’m not a fan of the cold so Texas is best for me lol
With the way you deride us I'm glad your bitch ass isn't moving here

Sort by percentage that voted trump and work your way down the list.
You can get satellite internet in the middle of nowhere so it doesn't matter.
lol that narrows it down. Maybe north Texas or the midwest. Ohio, Utah.
Ardmore Oklahoma. No one expects it, but it has several niceties. Do a job online, and enjoy the small town feel. It's an especially nice place because it has lots of geek stuff, but needs money to get better. You can be some of that money.
Why be poor where bill gates lives, when you can be bill gates in a forgotten town.
I am very familiar with Ardmore, would not move there. Plus that flatland up there on the I-35 corridor is going to see blowout development in the next 25 years. The OKC>Dallas will become one.
Live Oak in Florida gets ice in the winter and hot in the summer, but not death ray hot. Pretty rural, overgrown. Close to everything, though.
Reminder: don't dox yourself.
Yeah, I'm being vague about my current situation for that reason. People in this thread are sharing way more than what I'd be comfortable sharing but I appreciate the help everyone is giving.
I think a lot of the internet heebie-jeebies is unwarranted. I'm in Seattle they can come get me ;/
Most of these identifiers include millions of people. Don't be so paranoid. Don't dox yourself ofc
Depends on what you mean. We already have enough issues with Christianity decaying here without help from people fleeing their bad choices back home
All I mean is I'm fine living near religious people, and I'd vote the same way they do. I just wouldn't be doing things like attending church on Sundays myself. We'd be on the same page wrt moral issues and the like.
I like Bamer 😎
Warning: hot
I live in Texas and love it here. Originally from Oklahoma and liked it there too. I’m Christian but I know people who aren’t so that shouldn’t be an issue.
new hampshire
Ah, I was going to suggest SC, but heat and humidity are facts of life here.
