Surely such upstanding gentlemen were not that bad. I mean, it's not like they would just publish outright falsehoods, including trying to did things like foment a war just to sell more papers. And they certainly wouldn't invent false claims about an accident on a battleship being a military attack when their initial propaganda campaigns failed to produce the war they wanted! Only despicably evil men would even consider doing such things.
Those things about Trump were simply "facts that had gained the weight of truth over time." You can't blame these decent, hardworking journalists for reporting what we all knew was true at that moment. Facts on the ground change, the science evolves. Nobody is to blame.
