There's been a propaganda push for as long as I can remember to portray giving birth as extremely dangerous and abortions as safe and effective. It actually just now occurs to me that it may have been a model for how covid and vaxxes are portrayed. I saw some NPC outraged at RvW possibly being overturned because "17% of births result in the death of the mother." I can't even begin to imagine where they got that number.
Africa.
Even in Africa that number is two orders of magnitude off. If 1 in 6 births lead to maternal death it would be very difficult for Africa to maintain population growth.
In the United States the statistic is 17 per 100,000 births, and they read it as 17 per 100 births.
