Just kill all the zombies when they're still very few. That's it. That's all. There were even months to do it in the book, but in Nights the panic is over they begin effortlessly and systematically eradicating the zombies within hours, which is what would happen (and the people at the house are besieged and die only because they trapped themselves near a cemetery - could and should have left, even by foot, as the sole survivor woman in Savini's version does eventually, just walking out and away, and the heroic black guy was wrong and the cowardly Jew was right, and he would survive too if she just didn't shoah him upon return in the scene that I linked).
I liked the fast zombies trend while it was a thing. A horde of angry, sprinting madmen that ignore pain is a really good apocalypse. And it works well in non American countries.
Actually, it's a great example of why feeling no pain is dangerous. Napalm and the like burn flesh. but it takes a long time. A normal human would spend their last few minutes thrashing around. But our theoretical zombie is still moving forwards because you haven't damaged anything important.
Humans are already tougher than most of the animal kingdom. A human that keeps coming at you until it is rendered inoperable is insanely tough.

A normal human would be dead from carbon monoxide inhalation in seconds. Hollywood flamethrowers are all flash and flailing, but in military use, most of the dead aren't even pink, much less crispy.

The premise of Walking Dead that everybody is infected could also work because people sometimes die randomly so entire society has to be restructured to keep people safe from each other. And you're going to make mistakes when you are under pressure.
Show had two problems, that it sometimes took a very long time to turn so cast can cry about it (should always be instant) and the zombies were too stupid and/or slow. They have to be a challenge in some way.

Or the fact that white men are always the "fools" in TV shows (unless they're beefcakes meant to entice female viewers) and only their longsuffering wives prevent these dolts from accidentally blowing up their home and such.
This stuff goes back decades, it's only becoming really obvious now because "the long walk through the institutions" is complete. My point was that many people sleep on more subversive and subtle forms of "wokeism".

It came out in the middle of the Bush II years so it's more a commentary of the consumerist brainless McMansion Mission Accomplished America of the 2000s than anything. And of course you have the other comments here talking about how the other countries are treated.
I'd say it's less woke and more 90s American "liberal" than anything. But, I haven't read the book in over a decade so there's that.
The book was crappy and in all honesty the Movie was actually better IMHO (It would have been one of the stories of the WWZ style telling). The ending could have been better. It could have been good 2 or 3 movies.

Zombies aren't really the best apocalypse. They require a lot of dumb decisions on the protagonist's part. It really pulls me out of the story.

My rule of thumb these days is that ALL popular media (books, movies, video games, etc.) are woke in some form or another.
Assume woke until proven otherwise- and realize that woke can be Marxist ideology, not merely woman-with-shaven-head-bosses-men-around.
That us also a forwarding the marxist agenda. It is an inversion of previously established norms and heirarchy.
Good rule of thumb. Mine is to generally avoid shows or books made after 2014. Unless someone I trust recommends it.

I saw the movie a while back. Have the book but haven’t read it yet.
It's a real quick read, and much better/different than the movie.
