I generally avoid big AAA publishers. With all the woke shit and microtransactions their games are crap anyway. Maybe when some gold/complete version of their older games goes on sale at 80% off or more I'll buy it (on a 3rd party store).
Other than that I give a developer's/publisher's social media and homepage a quick once-over before I buy a game. The woke are usually all too happy to brag about it.

A friend of mine wanted me to buy a game. I forget the name of it, but it was an EA game, a FPS with a WWI theme with a black guy on the cover. I already knew but I enjoy playing games with the guy. Bought it. Installed it. Ran it. Right away they advertised their support for BLM. Uninstalled it. Got a refund.
That game came out years before BLM was in the limelight and I don't remember anything like that when it came out. They went back 4 years later and added that shit in?
This along with trying to buy games used (to the extent that's even possible anymore) gets you a long way. I've been burning Dreamcast games like crazy, bought one of those N64 cartridges that plays ROMs from an SD card, modded my PS2 with a 1TB hard drive so I can play whatever I want. It's gotten to the point where I almost have too much choice of what games to play. But I also find some real gems when I just randomly try shit (eg. Gladius on PS2).
When people were bitching about the latest RE4 remake, all I could think was "why don't you just play RE4? Or the remake they made in 2014?"
