The HR lady is a real piece of work, and if no action is taken by DDG (which it probably will not) is reason to switch.

But, the bit about "all your data is in their hands" is just fearmongering. Even if DDG is trying to collect PII (in direct violation of their stated policies) the absolute best they can have is "this IP address did this search at this time" which isn't that useful.

search.brave.com

Idk, just started using it but all I know about is the founder was the guy that got booted from Mozilla for not being woke enough.

I tried Brave for a while, highly censored, and not very accurate - I wouldn't recommend it. Similarly with France/EU's "Qwant".

Brave is fine for a browser, but their default search engine is Google

Yandex is pretty good. Great for searching up research documents and studies that Google hide related to certain topics.

Is there a site that compiles resources on good tech for privacy conscious/anti-woke people? I know there's a site for privacy stuff, but you will have to worry about malicious wokists straight up lying in their privacy policies, and you don't want to support them anyway. Search engines are important, but they're only part of the puzzle. Web browsers are the other obvious piece of the puzzle, but things like email providers matter as well. With OSes it's mainly a matter of mitigating all the horrible shit Microsoft does if you can't switch to Linux. We should be compiling this stuff if no one else is yet.

This is discrimination based on race and/or gender. Why the fuck is this guy not suing? The only reason this bullshit is allowed is because no one is pushing back on it. Don't just making posts online. He has actual actionable evidence here. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

EDIT: I know someone is going to say something about affirmative action, but that argument can only be valid if these applications were received at the same time, and there was something very specific about her experience that shows the minority applicant will bring actual diversity to the company.

Lawyers are afraid to take cases to advocate for whites because they might be disbarred. The bar associations are all ran by liberal lunatics.

TBH... i use yandex. Just have to be careful.

Mouthy Buddha did an investigation into CP connections, and yandex is WIDELY used.

Hell even a search like young teen will bring up a sight AT THE TOP.

Tried reporting all the sights but no results... in immortal words of Wiley Martin....

PEDOS ABOUND... mother fucka.

Probably just because they don't filter results.

Just report the site to the feds and then wonder why nothing is done and then do some research and find out that the feds take over and run those sites....

Unfortunately you can't sue. They can always find something stupid, "he seemed disingenuous" or "we liked Ahmed for being a blank canvas with great spirit". There is a ton of arguments you can make in a case like this that would hold up in court. You have to show that they are doing it systematically in order to have any chance.

Sad reality is that large companies can discriminate against anyone. My company discriminates against men all the time. I was part of the hiring process at one point, I was one of the guys that would test applicants on technical skills, Linux, networking, db, scripting, stuff like that. I've seen great guys not being accepted in favor of women that completely failed the technical tests, were not from a tech background or have never even touched an Unix OS - this was on positions that required 7+ years . The only women that did not get an offer was one that was to scared in her interview, she thought she could not do the job, really emotional about it. Only good thing is that this girls tend to not stay for long since customers want good service and do not give a crap about the sex of the one they work with, bad thing is that they tend to fall upwards, tech companies are bending over to take women.

I've eventually asked to be removed from the process on the fact that it was hurting my mental state. Seeing the blunted discrimination is was hurting my soul.

Searx

Use a public node, or host your own if you don't care about privacy but want better results.

If you're able to deploy a public node others can use do that, the more nodes there are the harder it is for the fuzz to find your needle in the haystack.

I'm technically competent, having run webservers for 15+ years. I'm genuinely considering setting up a public node that I can also share amongst family/friends.

One bit I didn't quite get of your comment: "host your own if you don't care about privacy" – do you simply mean that server providers are going to require personal details and it's not too hard to track down who runs one? - or is there some other consideration I'm not understanding?

the privacy thing is a basic one in that all the search providers know which IP the requests are coming from.

Running a searx instance requires no personal data, from you as the hoster or from users.
It's just a simple docker image for most people (that's what I use for my personal instance)

If you're eager to hide your controversial knitting hot takes, hosting a node for yourself isn't going to protect you from unscrupulous three letter agencies.

Hosting a public node can help other people who are worried about privacy as their request will be lost in all the other requests.
Running a public node is a great thing to do as it helps others.

If you're hosting I would recommend going for the domain owner anonymizer protection if your registrar supports it.

I have been using DDG for about a year now, though honestly if it wasn't for their instant "bangs" to search Google and other sites, it wouldn't be good enough for my use. I find results both highly censored, and generally quite inaccurate.

Brave has been no better for me, nor Qwant. Probably give Yandex a try as the top comment suggests.
