If only there were such a thing as a "defense attorney" who could present evidence to an "impartial judge".

Unfortunately, neither thing exists in Washington DC. Private attornies won't touch Jan 6 cases, so you get a public defender who essentially works for the prosecution, and a judge who also works for the prosecution, because it's 99.44% Democratic Washington DC.

you get a public defender who essentially works for the prosecution

From DS9 Tribunal:

Ah, Mr. O'Brien, if it sounds immodest of me, I apologize, but the role of public conservator is key to the productive functioning of our courts. I'm here to help you concede the wisdom of the state. To prepare you to accept the inevitable with equanimity.

And that's exactly what's going on with these cases, with defendants being treated by their own defenders as if they are guilty and must be reeducated.

And just as in that episode, these "trials" aren't about justice. They're not even really about punishing the defendants. They're about intimidating anyone who might oppose them:

Whatever you've done, whatever the charges against you, none of that really matters in the long run. [...] This trial is to demonstrate the futility of behavior contrary to good order.

I suspect Cardassian courts were intended to be a satirical jab at American ones in the first place.

Some of them would suicide, many would say "I was just doing my job" and the rest would swear they did nothing wrong and that they're the real patriots.

They aren't going to lose power. They have it locked down and they know it. Now they are punishing and ruining their political opponents. Next they wll disarm you.

Those charges existing as a prosecutable crime are peak legalese.

McNicoll is charged in federal court in the District of Columbia with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to a federal criminal complaint made public Monday.

Where’s the violent entry? Last I checked cops are lawful authority. Where’s the disorderly conduct? Her existence isn’t a crime.

These laws are not real, they are impossible to prosecute fairly and designed as a political weapon on the common people.

Well, she's clearly in the wrong. Look at her, just standing there, moving in an orderly fashion nonviolently. She doesn't even chuck a brick through a window or steal any jogging shoes. Clearly criminal. Not like the good folx at BLM and Antifa, who of course always have any charges dropped even on the very rare occasions a charge is brought up in the first place. They know how to peacefully protest.

If only the Right could learn from the Left and peacefully protest just like they do, this wouldn't be a problem. We have overt, clear examples, with lots of legal precedent set, on how you're supposed to act at a protest or anti-authority grouping from Left-wing organizations and charities. When you act like this granny, you're getting the book thrown at you as the law demands. When you act like BLM and Antifa, the police instead hunt down people who would dare impugn against your noble name because of how properly you act at these events.

If only black moderates-republicans were as virulent as their democratic “counterparts”. I wish U/Smith1980 could loot to his hearts content, unfortunately that would still end in no looting because he’s a responsible human being.

If only the Right could learn from the Left and peacefully protest just like they do, this wouldn't be a problem.

But the left also has the infrastructure to support it, there's huge amounts of not for profit organisations who provide bail money, massive amounts of left wing legal supports. Hell some of those orgs above just flat out agitate to have activists placed into prosecutor positions. Look at LA (I think) where the DA is a Soros appointee activist who is overtly progressive and refuses to prosecute based on skin colour.

This is FAKE NEWS. The exit sign was cropped in this photo. She was being escorted outside. You can see the daylight.

Post Reported for: Rule 12 - Falsehoods

OP, what do we know about this situation, just to be clear. Any arguments about this being fictitious?

There appears to be an argument that she was walking outside in the photo? - https://kotakuinaction2.win/p/12jJBxtv62/x/c/4JAeXFcV8UC

As p8triot wrote: there is apparently an EXIT sign above the door that has been cropped out: https://patriots.win/p/12jJBwkygD/uh-pedes-was-she-being-escorted-/c/

No idea where that door actually leads but without further information that seems rather fishy.

This is what seems so disgusting to me. I am sure there were probably a few people who went to far in things, but it sounds like they were basically invited in? How is that not some sort of entrapment? I am not legal expert but seriously how is this not entrapment?! They literally let these people into a public area and are prosecuting them. Now go ahead on those who went too far but this is just silly.
