IMDb has officially gone full SJW... they now fudge ratings when they are too LOW for woke properties... race-swapped TV show Anne Boyelan (2021) should clearly be 1/10, but they've artificially placed it at 6.9/10 based on fucking nothing (media.communities.win)

ignore the rating numbers, only read negative reviews, the truth tends to be in there

This is the first thing I do, you'll find hundreds of 10/9/8 reviews with <10 words but them dozens of actual lower star reviews with actual details.

Or even better stay away from review sites and make your own conclusion!

It seems to be a quirk of human nature that rating systems skew towards the extreme.

  • People who like something a lot will rate it 10/10
  • People who hate something a lot will rate it 0/10
  • Other people who care about it will give it an honest rating and a detailed review, but this takes more thought and work than an extreme rating so they are in the minority
  • most everyone else who uses the product does not care enough to bother rating it, so the opinion of the mass majority is not recorded in the rating system.

I do it intentionally when rating things because I know most people only look at the total score, usually only high or low ratings will affect that score, and I assume many other people are doing the same thing.

The same effect is seen in politics and in the culture war once people started getting hyper-political. Everything became a negotiation tactic from extremes, hoping to win the middle. It's probably something from Game Theory.

Unfortunately, lazy people tend to see the world in binary. They don't even know what nuance means.

Let's not forget the people who like "much controversial" content and are SocJus opposed to the people who dislike it will bomb it with 10/10 for the greater good regardless of what they actually think of it.

make your own conclusion!

Literally reviews are used when you don't have access or exposure.

That is the best advice, is good for when buying anything, a tv, a game, a book. The negative reviews are all that matter.

I would suggest that they do period pieces about an African, Asian, or Native American kingdom/empire. Or why not research a black person who was actually in Europe back then. But I guess they are too lazy. Much easier to make European history more “diverse”

There are plenty of interesting people. The (black) father of Alexander Dumas for example was a general in the armies of Napoleon and fought in Egypt and in other campaigns. A man of both enourmous strength and bravery, there are lots of colorful stories about him.

The father of Alexandre Dumas, General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, was born in the French colony of Saint-Domingue (present-day Haiti) to Alexandre Antoine Davy de la Pailleterie, a French nobleman, and Marie-Cessette Dumas, an African slave.[4][5] At age 14, Thomas-Alexandre was taken by his father to France, where he was educated in a military academy and entered the military for what became an illustrious career.

There are some problems however, For example, he was accepted, not persecuted.

But as you say, anyone who reads histroy can't pick up a book without seeing an interesting story.

But entertainment and truth are not desiderata here. The real goal is to teach people that 2 + 2 = 5,

Yeah they should totally make a TV show about that guy.

And cast a white actor.

Isn't IMDB owned by Amazon (thus already making them compromised)? I recall them canning their message board shortly after Trump was inaugurated -- not saying it was the cause but it is too coincidental...

Also, their Trivia sections in TV and Movies are mostly bullshit; not all of the details are accurate and they lack sources.

They've been crap for years and someone probably just forgot to switch off the distribution graph like they did for the stupid 2016 ghost movie. (It doesn't deserve it's given name...)

I wouldn't be surprised if peoples reviews have just been inflated because there hasn't really been any legendary films from the last couple of decades.

Like how did the last Jedi get a better rating than the original fast and furious? Yeah it was just a racing film, but it at least had a plot! :D

In all fairness, this is what we get for driving the market into the streaming platform.

Its the only thing they have to measure success, since ticket and dvd sales mean nothing now.

Netflix did the same thing when they spent millions on Amy Shumer and they got rid of the 5 star system.

They know yes, you can hide ratings and reviews that sit on your servers, but you can't hide ticket and dvd sales.

Boondock saints is a good example. Limited theater release, but when dvd sales blew up they knew they had something.

Shot Caller is example of what happens to a good , budget movie now. Forgotten because reviewrs dont think its black enough.

Nice of them to put the real numbers. I wonder how they compare to other media-hyped female-centric period dramas. Is getting 10 stars from only 123 people normal? There's no way to fake that with "unusual voting activity". Even if it's normal, the negative reviews could be a sign that a mediocre or downright bad show was given undue praise and attention by access media. But that would never happen.

If they ignore 1s and 10s, the massive majority of reviews for this shit are 2s and 3s. How does that translate to 6.9?

Just about everything new is overrated. If it has all 10's it's usually because it's about someone who's nonwhite, bats for the other team, or has some disability.
