Strangely how some friends of mine, who are more on the left, thought I was being paranoid for thinking having Alexa gives a free pass for surveillance.
Bonus another friend who says he has nothing to hide so they are free to monitor him. The dude is a leftists.
I've infrequently talked about my father on here, hardcore old school Republican. One major thing we fight over is he is a "I have nothing to hide, bring on mass surveillance to shut down criminals" headass.
The left has been completely neutered by corporate woke propaganda. It was so effective they gave up all their beliefs that were inconvenient to mega-corps.
The left got too close to socialism with their occupy Wall Street movement so the bankers used their news puppets to start pushing race Marxism instead. And because the left is brain dead, they ran with it.
People who believe they have nothing to hide don't understand how badly the information collected can be used against them. Imagine knowing every little detail about someone to the point that you can A) groom them to be a sleeper agent for a planned terrorist attack or B) frame them for the police to shoot down. Either way, it has already been done so for the intelligence agencies, it's nothing new for them.
Here comes the mass surveillance that these cunts dream of. I don't trust my phone and there is nothing beyond my streaming boxes and computers connected to the internet. That's even too much.
I would never allow a state-of-the-art virtual assistant in my home. Until voice processing can be done on the device itself without being outsourced to a server outside of your control, they should not be considered consumer-grade products.
I don't understand why so many people want these devices even without this sidewalk thing. Sure, it is a little bit of convenience but is it really so much work to hit a couple buttons or switches to turn your lights on instead of letting <insert big tech company here> know when you're doing it? And what did people think the end result of letting <insert big tech company here> monitor and control half your house would be?

'Nothing to hide' idiots are some of the worst people.
People who have nothing to hide are cowards and conformists.

They not only gave up all their beliefs to the mega corps, they then have the nerve to project and claim its the right who WANT a mega Corp future.

"nothing to hide"
just start asking them personal questions till they refuse to answer. Then point out that they do have something to hide.

Yeah, the safe thing to assume is that if it connects to the internet it's harvesting all the data it possibly can from you. You must assume your phone's mic and cameras are always active. Iphones have been shown to take IR images every 5 or so seconds.
That's the first I've heard about it, you should post that as a new thread.
I have a pi. There is already big tech animosity towards them it seems. It will kick into overdrive if more people figure out pi-holes.
Hope they're ready to listen to my dog whining for 19 hours a day every day.
Attach a bluetooth mic to your dog's collar so they can listen to SCHLORP SCHLORP SCHLORP, ball-licking, sleep farting, and dry food crunching.

Karl Denninger discussed it today, worth a peek - http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=242549
And people wonder why I refuse smart house products for gifts.
