The insufferable NPR talking heads about climate versus weather is hilarious when they keep yelling isolated incident! Except they keep happening.

In reality, weather patterns may indicate climate change depending largely on what all the trends actually are and what happens to be contributing to them.

"It's the average lowest minimum temperature since 1922".

Great. Why?

"The trend is going up/down"

Okay, so what?

What caused the weather events? I know my April was pretty cold, that was because of the shifting of arctic jet streams. Could that be caused by Climate Change, yes. Was it? I don't know yet, we're talking about a change in Climate, not just one event. I need to see all of the changes over the past 30 years. Not just one single abstract factoid, I need all of the facts.

Nonono, don't you see? Record-tying cold temperatures are PROOF that we're warming the planet beyond repair. The ice caps are gonna melt and flood NYC anyday now! Stop eating meat, sell your car and live in the pod bigot!

I don't like this. Now the climate cultists can perpetuate the logical fallacy of "THE LOCKDOWN SAVED THE PLANET!!!"

Yeah that was my first thought too.

"Look how much we fixed climate change with this lockdown, we need to have regular lockdowns to address the climate pandemic. I lock down to protect myself and others, is it really that much to ask?"

I can attest that the weather is really mediocre here right now. I'm still having to wear a coat outside in May, which is unusual even by British standards.

How do you get mediocre weather? Is it just not trying hard enough? bit uninspired this weather?

I like the weather like this, this is good weather...the less excuse for morons to expose there flabby bodies the better in my humble opinion.

Well I'm speaking as someone who loves the sun. I always feel more energized and in a better mood when it's sunny outside.

Just wait until that current stops entirely. You're going to have glaciers again.

I assume you're referring to the gulf stream? What makes you think it's going to stop?

Haven't studied it in any detail, but I've been led to believe the 'irregularities' we're seeing now are the precursors to its collapse, particularly if the ice melt keeps adding fresh water to the north Atlantic.

I mostly follow earth and space weather in general, so would have to go find the recent papers on the gulf stream to say anything about time frames, or the definiteness of the trend.

Ever tried pointing out that the Earth has had at least 5 ice ages and we've only just come out of the most recent one? So obviously the planet's climate is going to change because it always has done. It's not a new thing and it's not man-made. They will quickly call you a denier and run away.

A proper Ice Age? Well that depends on what you mean by "recent".

The Planet's climate is absolutely going to change because humanity has had an absolutely massive impact on the world's many ecosystems, and it's also changing the atmospheric content.

This is the one left wing thing I still have of what remains of my leftist ideology, but my solution has never, ever been to FORCE laws into place to achieve it. Advocacy by the government should be done but not at the cost of the working and middle class. For example, what the far left is trying to do with the Green New Deal-esque measures of completely removing gas cars and replacing them with electric cars will not work. They're still too expensive for the average working or middle class person to get - especially ones who are living in apartments that are 40-50 years old with no infrastructure in place to charge them.

What I dislike about these leftists is that they always push for this shit at the cost of the poor - and if they "care" about the poor, they only focus on the ethnic minorities, even though there are a TON of poor white folks.

Nevermind global warming, the reason why I want to slowly get us off oil is to remove our dependence on fossil fuel. Fucking Biden diverted our drilling back to being dependent on the Middle East again when we spent a good FOUR YEARS with locally made gas and petroleum which kept gas prices low and create less of a burden on the lower and middle class.

Same thing goes for electricity. Right now "renewables" cost too damn much, are only accessible to the rich, and each renewable has some sort of downside to it. I am ok with going for renewables if we have a good plan to do it that doesn't hurt the poor in the process AND if we use nuclear power as a BRIDGE/STOPGAP that will allow us to get to the renewables in the future as tech continues to improve around it.

Nuclear Power should have a fixed number of years of operation with a gradual plan to replace its output with renewables in the future, but I am also aware of the limits of renewables, including the need for batteries at night and the potential damage stuff like windmills can do to birds.

The problem is leftists always do dumb shit to make the average working man's life more annoying - banning bags, banning untensils, straws, etc. They poke you with the little things so when they jab the giant bat up your ass you will be eventually numb to it.

All shit that only increases opposition to what they really want.

I've advocated that the only viable solution to Climate Change is free-markets and private property. Fundamentally there is an issue of pollution that is related to carbon emissions. If you want to reduce pollution, you have to make it such that people will respond to pollution rather than it being someone else's problem.

Do you want garbage in your water? No, go after the person up-stream. Sue him if need be. If you can't push past him, start cleaning the water yourself (there are many methods). Frankly, same goes with air pollution.

The Tragedy of the Commons guarantees pollution, so privatize the problem.
