We should be leveraging these cave paintings to extract money back from China. It's far better than the glass bead scam.

I actually quite like some of Basquiat's work, not so much this. $31 million is insane.

Johnny Depp was a large holder of Basquiat, he sold off most of his collection during the divorce from Amber Heard. I don't think his entire collection was worth 31 mil.

The money printers go brrr.

“It is simply a masterpiece,” Cristian Albu, Christie’s international director of postwar and contemporary art, said of Warrior.

This is why I can't take any modern artist or art critic seriously. No, it is not a masterpiece. As you said, this is something that would come out of early elementary school. It is total crap.

Y'know, not enough people understood what Andy Warhol was trying to do to the modernists. If they had, he'd have been seen less as an artist and more of a very brilliant visual comedian.

The modernists understood, that's why they hated him as much as Hollywood hated Mel Brooks and in the same way that musicians feared Al Yankovic.

"Smells like Nirvana." "Is it gonna be about farts?" "No, it's about how nobody knows what you were singing about." -Actual discussion between Weird Al and Kurt Cobain

Gotta make sure you have the right skin color first.

Oh, and you have to die of a heroin overdose.

On both of those counts, we have to say Basquiat was way ahead of the times.

I think you have to be a rich kid so that your parent's influence gets you into the expensive galleries where your work gets inflated. Without that you're just some guy on deviant art.

I would bet that the guy that drew this was touched as a child.

Impressionism was and is the death of art since people started accepting it.
