Someone had a good idea last week about making a kindness post.
Fundamentally, it is important to build communities and institutions through affirming actions and efforts. A forum devoted solely to bitching and complaining will never work, and could potentially toxify (though in our case I doubt it would be too bad because you all are capable of self-regulating).
That being said, I like the idea of making one post every week that is specifically devoted to, not simply good news, but good affirmations to each other.
Please post positive things in this particular thread. Also, feel free to ping other users with compliments, kindness, and affirmations.
Think of it as a morale building exercise!
Maybe I'm just a miserable fucker but can we not just leave this 'wholesome' faggotry to redditors?
I come here for the hate.
I mean, yes, I'll unsticky it.
I like the way u/Pathologic3 thinks, can that be my affirmation for the day?
yes
I..I have horrible news..
You're going to want to sit down for this.
Oh ffs why can't someone else do this shit ughhhhh
I...well...
....We're redditors...
THERE I SAID IT
I like the idea of building institutions and dedicating (at least) a post per week to that end. I do wonder if perhaps instead of kind-posting the post could be a bit more productive.
There's a lot of untapped skill on this board: I've talked to other STEM people, academics, finance people, business people, machinists, soldiers, and the like. Enough that if we were all in one physical location we'd have the oasis from Clown World that we all seem to want. And we're all just kinda sitting here thinking "well shit now what do we do?" I don't pretend to know what tapping into that skill would look like or how to go about doing it, but it's a shame it's sitting here unused.
Anyways that was my "good affirmation" intended in the spirit of "kindness".
Agreed, we need some forward moment but we're all sort of milling about trying to puzzle out what said forward moment would look like. I've seen some segments of the current political dissident movement advocating for everyone moving to the same region, but I don't think that's viable for everyone, so we'll probably need to figure out how to set up multiple outposts scattered across the country.
Sounds great. I think we get too entrapped in hate fucking here. Don't get me wrong, it's fun in a dark way, but often times it's boring in its entirely predictable nature.
Hell, I've been itching to create a topic about US economics and dark days ahead, but was a bit too lazy. Maybe I'll get to it eventually.
The great thing about this forum is that nobody's policing content. Don't worry about ideas -- execute. It'll stick if it vibes and timing is right; if not, no big harm.
Yeah I've had a post on "alternate communication methods" sitting in the back of my mind for some time as well. I think a great way to gatekeep communities is to use old tech that wasn't "normie-friendly" like IRC, newsgroups, and BBS's. But I haven't yet put anything to paper.
Some anons on /pol/ for a time tried setting up "Right Wing Dev Squad" threads to try to start building up distributed software infrastructure, which I thought was a great idea that unfortunately didn't go anywhere.
I've been kicking around some ideas involving things like BBS's and such, too, just on a pretty small scale. Maybe one of us will get some solid ideas down and we can compare notes.
Well I’ll say something nice. You jannies are the best jannies.
Much appreciated, but don't spend too much time wasting jannies when you could be complimenting people who contribute to human society.
I think that this sort of attitude is important. Morale is always an important part of any war (and make no mistake, this is very much a virtual war with the Woke Mob), so you must keep the right attitude. As for me, I have been overjoyed. I recently discovered a few new bands I like, I have been watching anime, and like others I have been returning to older games and movies that like. Before the Woke. Some even after that managed to slip by them, specifically Midway, which is probably one of my favorite war movies to come out in recent times.
EDIT: Also, I would just like to say for the blackpilled among us: We just witnessed the first time a celebrity has been uncanceled with Gina, and there is a growing backlash against the movement. A lot of the actions that are being taken are because they believe they have won, and are growing more concerned and enraged that people are still resisting them, which is just increasing the resistance. It will be a long, hard road. But the tide is not in their favor.
Agreed. I think we're going to win the long war.
Maybe figure out a collective project of some kind to work on?
Maybe be productive instead of asspatting like a bunch of faggots.
Yes like that. I was thinking video game competitions.
Just wanted to say, back in December I went for a pre-learner course to get my learners license for a motocycle, as that's required here. Completely failed as I didn't have control of the bike. Went for 2 one-on-one courses, learned to control the throttle and the clutch and actually passed the assessment last week. This isn't to brag but rather to point out that dedication can eventually teach you things, it's only your mind making excuses for not doing something.
Awesome! Good Job!
You can always improve yourself, no matter how hard the challenge.
I don't think I can properly explain why, but I don't like this idea. Your reasoning seems fine, it's just that part of the premise seems to be that we have no positive discussions or uplifting interactions - and I reject that. I've seen several threads where people ask for advice, for example, and those threads usually have great advice.
Making an official regular thing of it also just kind of reeks of daycare stuff to me.
But, yeah, I'd like to see some good news. If anyone knows any, I'm not sure why they'd abstain from sharing here.
I'd say that the reactionary nature of our sub drifts towards the negative; but I'd like to more specifically make sure we are building communal structures that function to foment community and build up individuation and a sense of value.
Opposition is a rallying point, but it requires an other. I would like to make sure we don't need an other to function, and that we can demonstrate and promote social value in our community without opposition.
Well, I still agree with your points, just not quite the conclusion. Simplest explanation I could give is that if I were coming here to seek out positive/uplifting engagement, I would refuse to do so in the thread designated for the purpose.
But hey, I'm just one guy here. Go ahead and go for it - if it gains traction, then that's good. If even 6 people can be enriched (not the ironic kind) by it, then I'd count it as successful.
I'll add some constructive criticism, at least. We get some /pol/ types here, and they often struggle to integrate. Now, I'm not gonna suggest making the process easier for them, but I want to point out that they had a sort of analog to this in the form of a "self improvement general". I think it's worthwhile to examine analogs, but I'll save you some time and explain. They needed it as a counterbalance; a lot of their discussions revolve around the degeneracy and failings of others (even if false, the perception is important here), so it creates a natural back-of-mind nagging "How can I better uphold my own values?". So they could go to those self improvement threads and discuss the answer to that question.
To translate to our community here...well, a lot of the discussion is basically reports of attacks and battles elsewhere. Like an army base coordinating data about what's going on in the front lines. Except we have no real chain of command and it's hard to get reliable data sources and we succumb to despair occasionally. There's a lot that could improve. Personally, I'd like to see gamers unironically rise up and become leaders themselves, so I'd push for a solution adjacent to that. Let's make our own press, internet, banks and then nations, haha. But those 3 problems (organization, accurate data, morale) are key, I think. The morale problem is the simplest to solve, even if it's a constant uphill struggle. Organization is a toss-up, but I hope to see some real discussions around the nature of operations and the viability of herding cats (dipping into both legal and ethical conflicts). Accurate data is gonna be a bitch, because that's practically the foundation of us being thrown in the pit - who knows, though, maybe we'll get lucky there.
That's about all I have on my mind about it. Though somewhat relatedly, I remember you telling me in the past that you were working on compiling some data for us, something along the lines of alt-tech stuff. Still working on that?
post something positive? ok how about protons they are positively charged...shame they are too small to see huh?
Hope you all have a nice Saturday :)
I did actually. Got up in the middle of a bunch of freezing rain to go work out and do some sparring. Hitting people in the face and getting hit in the face can be a real good time. I'm always in a better mood after a good workout. Now I'm gonna do some day drinking, eat some donuts and maybe watch some anime.
Saturdays are good to me.
I've been replaying older movies and games for a while now and it has drastically improved my morale. Not sure if you guys like Archer, but I've recently started watching it from episode 1 and I've been laughing my arse off. I'm also going thru House M.D. This type of shows I assume were considered progressive at the time but o boy are they anti-woke culture now. It is a good way to remember how drastically the culture shifted in a very short period of time.
I'm planning to watch Futurama next and Farscape.
It's important to focus on things that are genuinely entertaining and valuable as they can ground you, both interest and morally.
I 100% agree with the need to build community and institutions. I think voice chat would help a lot doing that. I think many of us have stayed away from voice chat over very justified concerns regarding discord. Both a fear of getting banned, and a fear of eavesdropping.
A matrix server would give us (voice) chat without reducing us to sharecroppers on discord land.
I think gaming servers would be optimal because it would be purely exclusive to local communities that you can create high-trust environments around. It's too decentralized to be managed, and therefore infiltrated, effectively.
kindness is gay. post inspiration and assurance of inner strength. no man needs womanly "oh you're such a good person!!!"s, but sometimes they do need to be given sight of the goal back when they lose it.
I suppose that's more along the lines of what I was going with, to be honest.
I'd like to promote social re-enforcement for good conduct.
