Portraits of influential women in science are only rare because so few women are passionate about science - not because they wouldn't put them up if they existed. Plenty to bitch about it but not taking any interest in the field they're bitching about.
That's how it has always used to be. There have always been a minority of women in primarily male hobbies and a minority of men of in primarily female hobbies. But only the former are bitching about it. And the reason most women don't play video games isn't because men don't let them -- its because there are much fewer interested in it.
