I've got one old tool I still occasionally use at work that's an old text-based terminal system. Love it. Once you spend the couple hours learning to use it it works flawlessly. Every time. It brings up what I need to know in seconds.

All the new stuff is a jumbled assortment of bad Javascript and 30 different backend systems that never work right. Oh crap, I have to clear my cookies because I'm getting a spinny circle instead of the info I'm looking for. Oh that one particular cloud system is having issues somehow sorry you can't get those little icons you need to click on to do work until we fix it. It's all so fucking slow too. I could never be a developer, because I just couldn't make that shit.

I cared at first although I've never had an iPhone. I did get a BlackBerry in 2008 and I've had a couple higher end phones. Then I got tired of it and realized that my $200 special Android phone looks the same in a case as the $1000 one and I've never missed out on any functionality I actually wanted. Everyone with those worries about insurance, payment plans, contracts, whatever. I give a couple hundred bucks to a website every couple years and don't have to worry about it.

The more I look around the more I think a lot of it is a product of upbringing. Not only are they trained to consume endlessly, but they have always been able to consume endlessly. Perhaps it's financial means, perhaps the systems are just designed to give the "feeling" of consumption to those who don't have it--if that makes any sense at all (speculation).

So when it's popular to run to another product, they consume, because they have always consumed. There's no thought of what might be coming. I've had this discussion with my teenage cousin a bunch before where I've had to tell him pretty much straight up that honestly my brain is just wired to be selective and smart about where I spend money and not just boom! I want this now and if the next best thing comes out tomorrow, I'll just get that too. I'd think to be patient and wait for the best opportunity. It's a huge difference in my mindset and I'm not sure it's limited to teenagers because mindless consumption seems to be society now.

I'm pretty sure I often sound like a grouchy old boomer with things like this, maybe I am one. I'm also a product of my upbringing and a lot of things were going on with my family when I was in those coming-of-age years that even my younger brother was too young to pay attention to and it made me a bit different.

Oh I see so that's his apology basically. Should have doubled down. The blacks that eat KFC won't even notice.

Probably some white leftists getting mad on behalf of black people. Or whoever the hell Azim Akhtar is. Sounds kinda Muslim to me. I bet I've spent more time around actual American black people than that guy.

Based on what I know from only this video, I'll say people are right. I'm always on the side of the cops not wasting time on victimless crimes. I don't know where this is, but you're telling me they don't have something else to do? Are all the gangs still shooting each other? Are all the thefts resolved? I've had hit and runs and thefts happen to me and the police didn't even bother to collect evidence and were often dicks about me even bothering them at all.

It would have been plenty good enough to just diffuse and even if they have to arrest the guy a simple misdemeanor, night in jail, free to go come back and pay a fine. Cops don't seem mentally capable of doing that, they have to throw the book at someone because that's what gives them their jollies.

Things that would change my opinion would be something like this guy was driving down the middle of the freeway, etc.

I didn't research the rules so I can't confirm it was true. The topic didn't come up in political conversation so I have no reason to think it was made up or anything.

You mentioning plastic surgery reminded me of a story I heard. I can't remember exactly where but it was a friend or a coworker not like an online source. They had a friend who's kid had a pretty severe facial disfigurement from an accident. They mentioned that they had to wait until they were 18 to be able to consent to the plastic surgeries to make their face look more normal. I found that odd as I didn't expect that to be the case. So they can consent to genital removal but not fixing a disfigurement?

That's it. There's no reason to make childhood about sex except the alterior motives they have. If adults don't tell about it, kids do not really care to know until they are puberty age.

That's something that often goes unnoticed. I don't even necessarily pay attention to the power bill, I don't like dealing with the heat. I'm in a hot climate and this time of year I most definitely don't want to be running an 800W heater constantly. Despite the fact that it makes the PC build so much simpler because I'm not having to go to autistic levels of detail to get that much heat out of that little space quickly enough. My system runs on less than 300W total and it's find. I don't need to chase a few pixels, because if I'm honest 80% of the time can't tell the difference between 1440p and 4K in gaming, and that's on a 65" 4K OLED.

Don't have a Steam Deck though, because I don't care about handheld at all. I just wish everything PC gaming wasn't "OMG moar heat to dissipate"

Contempt of court is such a BS charge and should only apply to disruption of courtroom proceedings. A judge shouldn't even be allowed to rule on this, what do you think they are going to do, limit their own power?

Since I was complaining about Nintendo earlier in the week being anti consumer, well I'll give them credit with this: they are very good about allowing third party peripherals on the Switch. There's loads of controller choices available. Xbox in particular sucks at that.

I can stream Xbox games both from my X1 and from their cloud on my modded Switch too. It works surprisingly well. I suspect there's a Playstation option, but I rid of all my Sony stuff. Not officially supported, but hey it works.

Funny. I'm going to guess he used it to access a VM or something elsewhere, but even if not a Linux terminal is available on Android so I could imagine the potential for being powerful enough.

I just laugh at the companies too. You're telling me your data security is that weak? I've not read into it but if I had to guess it was someone dumb clicking a link in an e-mail and loading some backdoor. If he straight up just hacked through a firewall to a server, everyone responsible for that just needs to walked out for incompetence.

I looked into Path of Exile earlier this year and while I didn't really play it more than a few minutes, a lot of opinions about early game seem to match that. Meaning the end game was good, but for a new player getting there was broken. I know several here are into the game so bear in mind to you all this is opinions I read and not personal experience. I didn't end up playing it because it started to look a bit too MMO to me. Not necessarily in the gameplay but the way it will suck you in and become an addiction. I swore off WoW in 2011 for that reason. It wasn't healthy and I stay away from going down those roads again.

I have almost no doubt they make new characters strong to sell them. They need you losing to it so you will want to trade your money for it too. I used to speculate that with things as simple as weapons in an FPS game even, it's just harder to prove there.

I don't think my grandfather ever sat down and necessarily taught me financial things. It's just he was always open about his mindset. He didn't just use credit to buy things because he wanted it right now, he thought about it first and tried to be smart. It was like actually living the example versus preaching the example and then doing something else. If you ask me kids can pick up on that kind of stuff.

I think the taxes thing I learned in a class that was required to go to work some times in lieu of school. I left after lunch every day my last two years of high school. I worked in a warehouse. Sounds awful, but a high school kid that gets to go to school less, have every evening and weekend off, and get a consistent hundred bucks a week is a happy high school kid.

I think there's a problem with a lot of people with unrealistic expectations that they want only that too and are disinterested in the journey to get there. Maybe you have to start by helping out at the local TV station with production work. Then someone leaves and you get the chance to write boring scripts for local TV commercials. Oh wait, there's a job as an assistant writer on a B-movie and your friend at the TV station knows the director and might can get you an interview. You're building credits and experience up now. Are you likely to make Hollywood, still no. But you have more of a chance and in theory you are actually employed the entire time.

I'm speculating because I know nothing about that industry and how it works, obviously. The point being a think a lot go spend a bunch of money on school and when they are done it's like, "hey I finished when do I get assigned my Marvel movie?" When there is an opportunity at a small studio in Georgia, it's "ew no, didn't you see I went to Fancy University of Arts I'm a Hollywood writer I could never work in Georgia."

The one I'm talking about is not an Xbox controller necessarily. Meaning it will not work on an Xbox. I think Xbox does not allow third party controllers to be wireless (dumb). On PC though, it works exactly like an Xbox controller. My PC cannot tell the difference. They do make a wired Xbox controller if you want one for an actual Xbox.

I can't find where it says on their site it has hall effect sticks, but multiple reviews says it does. I'd have thought they would have advertised that.

Yes, absolutely. I never did that in school. I think maybe one year we talked about taxes, but it was a how to file your taxes thing. Over a day or two.

No idea how I learned because my parents were shit at it. Maybe from my grandfather. He was old enough to remember the great depression as a kid, and I think it stuck with him.

I actually bought an 8bitdo Xbox controller clone recently. My Xbox controllers are getting a bit worn out. Im not hard on them but they arent the newest either. Since I'm on PC it works just like an Xbox controller, but won't work on Xbox. Neat little charging dock, Dpad is a ton better (I tend to like a plus Dpad), has a couple buttons on the back that aren't quite paddles but usable. I mean it's not an elite grade controller by any means, but it was $40 and I've never felt it any worse quality than a regular level Xbox controller. I think the fancier one has the hall effect sticks and works on a Switch too. I went for the cheap just to try it.

I use the USB dongle. I also have a trackball and a keyboard when I need it. I usually use the trackball to move around I can sit it on the arm of the couch, on a pillow, wherever. I can play FPS with it if I want, but I only do on older things I really want to play still. I could never be good enough with it to compete in competitive multiplayer and a PC game like Battlebit I'd just get embarrassed by desk players if I was on a controller. It's fine, I really don't care for competitive gaming anymore.

I never would have gone back to PC gaming if controller support wasn't such a thing now.

Just be sure to get the screen with it. I know a guy who's thrown so much at a PC for his 1080p 60hz monitor. My RX6600 w/ i3 PC will do that. More most of the time right now.

That kid has been banned so many times. I don't really play Roblox with him, but I'm pretty sure he's gotten at least 3 accounts to perma ban level and always has one in a state of temporary ban. Mostly for nigger versus the sex stuff. I just keep begging him to not get his Steam account banned but usually more quiet there or on something old and less noticed. I'm making him sound awful, he's not a bad kid, just I swear the age that thinks he sounds cool like that.

I don't disagree that it's better. Just that I do not and will not game at a desk. Non negotiable. I sit at a desk enough I don't want to migrate to a different desk for my fun time too.

Are ISPs blocking archive? I've noticed I can't get through the Cloudflare or whatever captcha check that is unless I'm on VPN. I checked my pihole too, it's not that.
