I have a very liberal co-worker and we get along (we never discuss politics) and she went on a rant about about trans rights and the ban on the transing of children in Texas and gave the usual screed about old white men and then she kept going on about how she couldn't believe anyone would be stupid enough to vote for Gov. Abbott. That was when I told her that I had voted for him and she was shocked and said she thought I was more progressive. I then asked her if a kid can tell you that he/she is the opposite sex and we have to take that as the gospel truth, then why can't a 10 year old tell me that he wants beer for him and his friends at his birthday party because he is mature enough to make such a decision. Heck, why have any restrictions for kids?
She told me it wasn't the same thing and walked away. I remember about 20 years ago someone told me that the end game for the lgbt activists (not the ones who truly want to be left alone of course) was pedophilia and I told him that he was being paranoid. Now, I fear that the day is common with the mainstream media will openly defend pedophilia once they can "normalize" a kid changing their sex.
you have to think about it in their backwards lens
To them, your gender is not what you can biologically do in the reproductive cycle, but how you present yourself to the world. to put it simply, they conflate gender with personality.
that said, they also believe that gender is tied to your biological makeup on a cosmetic level. if you have a penis, you have the body of a boy and if you have a vagina and breasts, you have the body of a girl.
thus, any person who presents themselves as one gender but has the cosmetic features of another is obviously broken and needs corrective surgery and treatments. they are ill until they have received treatment, and there is no age limit to being treated for an illness.
the fundamental truth that needs correcting for them is that gender is not a personality. it is not how you present yourself to the world, or how you think about yourself. that's your ego. gender, and sex, are all about your role in the reproductive cycle and only your role in the reproductive cycle. the truly liberal view on this is that your gender does not define how you talk, how you dress, or the things that you like.
to anyone where this is obvious, a child transition is rightly considered a very unethical thing to do. this is because your gender does not define your personality, so if someone acts in a "feminine" way but is a boy, there is nothing actually wrong with them. you don't prescribe invasive treatments and surgeries to people who are not ill. like plastic surgery, if someone wants to go ahead and modify their body to look different on a cosmetic level, and they can consent this, then nothing should stop them. a child cannot consent to this kind of radical change in their body for cosmetic reasons, the same way a child cannot consent to a permanent tattoo.
the worst are the people who claim that it's reversible, because it absolutely is not. a child that goes down the path of hormone drugs, so-called puberty blockers, or surgeries can have the damage mitigated, but it would never be fully reversed. they will carry the scars of this abusive treatment for the rest of their life.
You mentioning plastic surgery reminded me of a story I heard. I can't remember exactly where but it was a friend or a coworker not like an online source. They had a friend who's kid had a pretty severe facial disfigurement from an accident. They mentioned that they had to wait until they were 18 to be able to consent to the plastic surgeries to make their face look more normal. I found that odd as I didn't expect that to be the case. So they can consent to genital removal but not fixing a disfigurement?
That's messed up, and IMO doesn't track. The kid had an injury that messed up his face, that's easily classifiable as an illness. The plastic surgery would be to remedy the illness.
I didn't research the rules so I can't confirm it was true. The topic didn't come up in political conversation so I have no reason to think it was made up or anything.
yeah, and I'm speaking in a philosophical sense not necessarily a legal or medical sense, so I don't really know either.
