Captain Parker didn't go to Lexington Green planning to start a war that morning, but that's what happened. There were quite a few sparks before that didn't quite light the fire until that day. Events like the powder alarm.
One of the things that made the revolutionary war possible was the large number of veterans from the French Indian War.
Today we have a government that is seemingly hell bent on alienating a demographic of men that spent a chunk of their late teens and twenties kicking down doors half away around the world over the past two decades. And many of them frankly have better kit in their homes today than they were issued 15 years ago...
30+ states have such militias on the books, but the next step is to get them actually funded. We did that in Missouri about 10 years ago after the Joplin Tornado happened and most of the MONG were deployed overseas. The "State Reserve Military Force" had existed on paper since the 80's, it was renamed the "State Defense Force" and given actual funding. However they currently act as an auxiliary to the NG to help maintain equipment. Next step is to separate it from the NG and completely divorce its chain of command from the NG.
I spent most of 2019 discussing getting this done between 2020 - 2024 but lots of debate whether to go this route or to adopt something closer to Virginia with counties responsible for creating a muster under Sherriff that can be deputized quickly. A lot of counties already do this. Or whether something else is needed i.e sanctioning militias at the county level with an appointed county "lieutenant" responsible for mustering similar to the old colonial model.
That and BFV rewrote actual history to the point that some of even the woke reviewers out there learned of the real mission to destroy the heavy water factories in Norway and the fact real people died undertaking that mission that rewriting it so it's a mother/daughter team was completely disrespectful.
Especially since there were real women who served on the eastern front that would have made for "woke" roles that were actually faithful to history. They could have highlighted the Night Witches or the woman who bought a tank to avenge her husband or the female snipers of Stalingrad. But they didn't. It was a lazy rewrite of history that dishonored the memories of those who gave it all as to why I never even touched it.
BF1 I think had one story that involved a Bedouin woman which doesn't fit with their culture at all, but things like revolts sometimes has people taking on unusual roles as well. It's just not something I've heard a lot about, but I'm not an expert on WWI. I should have studied it more as it was the cause of all the wars since, but I was much more into the Cold War era...
Hard to tell with players like Black Rock in the market. I've been looking for the markets to top and that might be starting to happen. I pretty much pulled out of the market as everything was at 10 year highs. That's usually the signal to lock in profits even if you leave the party a little early.
Now I overpaid for some farmland, but it was the acreage to fill in gaps around what we already owned so now we have a 498 acre continuous block. However that land hasn't been available in 60 years and if I didn't get it now it may not come available again in my lifetime.
Uneducated housewives used to be the mold of what you wanted for a Jury. Usually easily swayed by emotional arguments and appeals to what is "fair". Granted my wife was the one that spent nearly a decade in litigation. I was intellectual property...
That's how my Dad's family lost their farms in the depression. My mom's family owned their land outright and had a couple banks. They lost the banks, but still had their land.
Now my grandfather was able to finally rebuy the old family farms in the 60's and we've had them ever since, but we always pay cash for land and operated on cash.
Lincoln was following the Constitution when he did. In grade school & high school it was taught that Lincoln was evil for doing this and were told he went against the constitution in doing so. It wasn't until law school that I learned that was total bullshit.
Article I, Section 9, Clause 2: “The Privileges of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."
It’s already happening. My wife and I are Gen X and she fought this shit off once at her company. But she’s 5 years from retirement at this point.
