In some respects the scope of the objective when creating a new engine was a bit smaller back then, and thus a little easier to program from scratch.

Although at the same time, a lot of programming tools back then were also more prone to bugging out and breaking, especially compilers.

Still, I generally agree that game developers of yesteryear were exceedingly competent by comparison. Producing extremely solid games within 1-2 years sometimes, with teams no larger than 20. And while yes, some might say, "games are more complex than they used to be", the actual workload required for said features in a lot of games does not actual line up with the amount of bloat that companies end up hiring.

Hells, game developers used to have to create most animations by hand, without motion capture even being on the table.

Go for it. Should be fun to see the results. They'd better not cheat by hiring anyone else to fix their technical fuck ups.

And what of the rest of your antics seen in that thread?

Like look, I'm not even trying to go after you on this. But at least own up to a few instances where you've exhibited some rather goofy behavior and recognize that maybe you're getting a little too personally involved in some of these cases.

I've had to pull myself out of a few fights too over the years, because I realized the drama and the battle I was fighting was pretty damn pointless, even if I "somehow" managed to win. Because sometimes it's a stupidly small piece of a much bigger war.

Ableist has a reputation for kicking up beehives and crying for help when everything blows up in his face. He's also known for trying to stir up brigades for such senseless and trivial little spats of his.

Honestly, if someone's that deeply paranoid about covid, there's nothing an airliner could conceivably do that would alleviate their fears. I mean short of say, letting them fly with 0 other passengers.

And I say this while also recognizing that airplane cabins tend to circulate the air so much that transmission risks might be lower than in a lot of other scenarios within closed spaces. But even in such a case as that, a paranoid person is still going to be paranoid.

1d4chan isn't an archive of 4chan, but a lulzy and memetastic wiki on various topics, focused primarily on tabletop, pen and paper, and other hobby games and related subjects.

Obviously, in this scene Archer's supposed to be sick of it because of how much pain, stress, danger, agony, etc the whole affair's caused and how he wants nothing to do with it ever again.

Still, I think there was a subtle hint in there indicating that the writers were tired of it and wanted nothing to do with that plot element ever again. It was specifically the producers that had been insistent on the whole temporal cold war thing in the first place, and the writers had to try to force it into the plot for two years, no matter how stupid or annoying it was to begin with.

The species thing isn't too far removed from how often Star Trek's played up small but powerful empires that in the end, almost never actually appear at any point in TNG, DS9, or Voyager.

The Tellarites and Andorians for example were fairly prominent in a TOS episode, indicating that they were major players within the Federation (Journey to Babel). Then of course there's the Tholians and the Gorn Hegemony.

If anything, Enterprise managed to bridge the gap in some ways by reintroducing some of these former cast offs and giving them some new life and attention.

Indeed. There's even a scene later in the series where the characters sort of allude to how unpopular the whole "temporal cold war" concept was.

This does remind me of how challenging it can be to hold yourself back when you're doing some kind of editing for someone else and their writing.

It can be incredibly easy to slip into a mode where you incidentally start self-inserting your own writing, style, or ideas into it without fully realizing it. Just requires a little bit of self awareness, discipline, and vigilance to avoid it though.

Something that most leftist localizers apparently are incapable of.

Aye, I've found that to be quite true as well.

I tend to prefer that as well, for a myriad of reasons. At least with friends you'll usually know what's going on and what kind of assistance you can render.

Still, it can sometimes be rewarding helping out a random stranger you come across who's clearly down on their luck. Just sort of depends on the situation really.

I think the problem with charity work and volunteering is that the whole thing is set up like a job. Or a government funded program. In either case, it takes a lot of the human component out of the experience and doesn't actually feel as meaningful. And I agree, a lot of peoples' challenges are their faults. Not always, but fairly often.

Even so, sometimes all it takes is a single act that makes someone's day a little bit better, and it can make a bigger difference than you realize.

Consider something like The Fun Pimps did maybe? One of the main devs used to own a construction company and sold it to pursue creating 7 Days to Die.

It's seemed like a pretty chill and cozy set up for the devs from what I've seen with livestreams. They get to pursue some creative passions, create a community, offer up a fun and satisfying game to that community with regular updates, etc. And you don't necessarily have to be technically capable so long as you have the money and qualified team you can trust.

They've remained pretty damn immune to wokeness too, since they don't really bother with taking in investors or going public. They just do what they want to do, the way they want to, and enjoy the ride. And you

Another thing to consider might be to look into some mentorship sorts of opportunities, or something else of a charitable nature for others. Sometimes passing on some knowledge or helping other people out in general is its own kind of rewarding and worthwhile experience. And no, I'm not just referring to financial, but something where you're actually interacting with other people and making some kind of a difference.

Also don't forget Fatshark.

Oh I generally agree. I just seem to recall him at least going with the flow and sticking to the "narrative" on at least one episode in one of the last seasons.

He didn't seem outspoken in a supportive way by any means so much as was simply ceding to the APA's official position.

Bots, NPC's, not really much difference.

Huh. Well that's informative. Granted, while I think some aspects of license renewals in certain professions are a bit scammy, it doesn't excuse sending an employee out to do the tests/work for you.

Ender910 14 points ago +14 / -0

Actually, he does hold a doctorate in clinical psychology. Supposedly he stopped renewing his license in 2006 or something though.

He's always had an occasional spot of being redpilled.

Brushing with Hollywood has made him a little vulnerable to regressive influence, but the worst I think I've seen is maybe him following through with the tranny agenda to at least some degree. But that was from 6 or so years ago.

6
Ender910 6 points ago +6 / -0

Plus the more obvious. Freedom of expression. Regressives hate the first amendment with a passion. Damn snowflake control freaks.

I guess what's "worse" is what drives the behavior.

Persistent anger issues can definitely be a bad thing, and lashing out is not a good habit to develop, but at least the person is potentially capable of empathy since they're clearly experiencing other emotions like rage.

The kind of sadism we're talking about from serial-killer mentalities tends to be almost devoid of emotion in general (sociopaths), and almost incapable of developing guilt or empathy. Thus... they tend to be less capable of

There's quite a few less than mediocre shows on network TV that just seem to go on for fucking ever.

Not exactly a new trend either, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's become more common in recent years. Network and broadcast TV in general is essentially on life support, with terminal death somewhere on the horizon.

Ender910 4 points ago +4 / -0

I can certainly attest to royally hating having a bedroom with a window facing East. Turns your room into a sauna at 7 or 8 AM until maybe the early afternoon, and without some really strong shades your room will turn into the brightest light show just about every morning.

Ender910 3 points ago +3 / -0

100% agreed.

There's no plausible scenario, even outside of clown world, where I think the education system would ever be capable of providing any kind of helpful information or guidance on human sexuality and/or romantic relationships beyond the technical biological basics.

And within clown world it can't even manage to provide THOSE basics.
