Tea Party was attacked as racist. I remember they interviewed a black tea party member. They couldn’t believe why he would be out there and asked him. He said because I believe the message
The Boston Tea Party was also targeted vandalism against cargo that was part of their grievance with the British Empire. It was also done in a way where nobody got hurt, and no one was put in danger other than the (patriot) vandals themselves.
What the rioters are doing is straight up theft from a target that has nothing to do with the organization they are protesting. It's a false equivalency.
Well, the American Revolution was kind of unique in a lot of ways, really. It's like it was one of the few honest revolutions or something. (Also, it helped that afterwards, there was a free exchange of population between the USA and Canada - Loyalists and many French simply went north, while republicans moved south, for the most part, which avoided triggering any instinct for post-revolutionary "purges".)
Sons of Liberty only targeted the tea. They swept the deck and paid back the ship captain for a padlock they broke. They even beat the shit out of their own member who tried to pocketed some tea.
Rioting feels good. Hell, destroying stuff indiscriminately, threatening people, and setting fires while people cheer you on, that's gotta be the ultimate catharsis.
All it takes for a mob to devolve into rioting is a single asshole. All of the cities telling their cops to stand down or otherwise avoid the riots, all the district attorneys dropping charges against rioters, they are perpetuating this. One might say they're doing it on purpose.
