They are cute and everyone loves them but they kill birds and many of those birds are rare or endangered. Cats are invasive species and they disrupt the natural ecosystems they inhabit. There are bird species that will go extinct if something is not done about them.
But we love cats. Many love cats more than birds. So what can be done that isn't cruel? Culling them is out of the question!
So far what we think is the most humane way to handle this problem is to capture ferel cats, spay/neuter them, and then release them if we can't find anyone willing to adopt. Most cats get released with a clipped ear so we know not to catch them again. This solution doesn't solve the problem but itll slow or stop the problem from getting worse.
There is a silver lining. There are these other birds, the common house sparrow, that are invasive and have taken over. They are cute the way they chirp and play together but they don't have any songs and they challenge our native bird species. Despite their small size, they will gang up on and kill other birds. They also destroy nests. But the sparrows suck at flying so they are usually the ones that the cats get. So some people argue that the cats are actually helping the native species of birds by culling the invasive sparrows; but I disagree.

No we don't. They're a genuine menace in more than just the ways you're describing.
The obvious one, they kill countless other animals. This includes the birds you mention, it also includes native birds by the hundreds/thousands. It also include other animals, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, if a cat can catch it, it can kill it. And it won't even eat what it kills, it just kills because it can. Once saw someone suggest that of the total number of cat attacks on small animals, only a portion result in the death of the prey, and only a portion of those are eaten. Cats attack and maim more than they kill, and significantly more than they eat. They're likely responsible for multiple species extinctions over the course of human history, too, and wouldn't be the only animals humans have taken places that result in this, see the Lord Howe's Stick Insect almost being wiped out because humans brought rats to the original island the stick insect was found on.
On top of this, the greatest cause of death to birds isn't wind turbines, it's cats. Take away wind turbines and cats will still be killing the birds.
Those who love miscegenation will enjoy this next one. Pretty much all species of "domestic cat" can interbreed. They can also interbreed with non domestic cats like Scottish Wildcats, which is going extinct not because it's being hunted and killed, but because there are so few purebreed specimen left because of interbreeding with feral domestic cats people let loose.
Cats are a plague humanity has released on countless areas of the world, which is ironic considering how plague-like humanity often is in turn.
They also make shitty pets. A cat won't hesitate to eat its owner's face the minute she (let's be honest, it's almost always a she) dies. A dog will wait weeks until it's literally starving with no options before considering it. Cats are literal vermin and I'd like to see them go extinct.

The vast majority of birds killed by cats, feral or house pets, are at the lowest end of the endangered scale, Abundant? Overpopulated? Something like that.

My city & many others has a "trap, fix & release" program in place for many years now. They put a chip in them for easy identification as previously caught. 😺
Turbines kill off VERY rare or endangered birds regularly. Lots of bats too. They actually pay a tiny fee to get a permit to kill hawks and eagles! You try getting a permit to shoot bald eagles, lolz!
Killing animals at the bottom of the food chain is normal. That's how nature works. Killing off the top predators is very bad for the ecosystem! It can lead to dramatic "boom & bust" cycles that are far from good for any creatures involved, including the plant life.
I'm also not convinced that the "feline bird genocide" thing is nearly as real as it's made out to be. In all other feline species, only a very small percentage of hunts are successful, and domesticated cats are clumsy, slow, and stupid in comparison. Meanwhile people will kill half the trees and bushes in their neighborhood, pave over half the yards and every unused lot, poison any fringe that managed to escape, then turn around and ask what happened to all the birds and squirrels.

Good point. That is kinda the point with the house sparrows. These birds suck at flying so they usually nest in low bushes. Whenever I see a dead, mutilated bird, its a sparrow 90% of the time. But the reason I tend to disagree with the notion that cats help endangered birds is the mere fact that cats can and would attack them as well.
Apex predators are really important in any ecosystem. They found this out 'the hard way' in Yellowstone, eh? Otherwise the 'bottom feeders' will eat & eat, their numbers explode until there is no more food! Then they die off in gigantic numbers. That's normal in most difficult ecosystems, but not too high or too low. The predators follow the herd animal numbers, delayed by a couple of years, usually.
So without housecats eating all those birds and rodents? Either they'll enter an unsustainable boom & bust cycle or something else will emerge to eat them. Something we'll like a lot less!

Once when I was a kid, my idiot neighbor let his unfixed female cat run wild. Our neighborhood was overrun with them. Then one night, one of them got in our house and my dad had to chase it all over and get the shit clawed out of him in the process. He was pissed. He left our garage door cracked and put a bunch of food in there to draw them in over a few days. Then he shut the door to lock them in and took a gun and shot about 20 of the motherfuckers.
After that, we trained our dog to kill any cat he could catch. There were eventually no more feral cats in the neighborhood, or "outdoor" cats for that matter. IDGAF. Keep your fucking cats inside the house or don't own one.

Another interesting tidbit is how cats are preferred in Islam the way Christians are obsessed with dogs. Both societies now have feral populations of nuisance animals running about and nobody can do anything about it because pearl clutchers won't allow it.

Random weird post, but I'll respond because I hate cats. When I was in town one of those things tried to take up residence under my shed. I put a camera on it, waited for it to leave, then blocked the underside of the shed and it's access hole in with concrete.

Blocking entry is the best way to deal with immigration. But when left unchecked we have a different problem, multiculturalism. Which normally wouldn't be too bad, but when left unchecked it leads to conflicting cultures in the same areas. The only solution aside from expulsion is a dramatic change in culture: either the 2nd gen immigrants must change to adopt the native culture (assimilation) or the natives must abandon their traditions to embrace the new culture (progressivism).

Hawaii has a problem with an invasive slug eating crops. It has no natural predators there so authorities brought in another invasive slug to fight it, a carnivorous slug that eats other slugs. The result: The new slug completely ignored the invasive slugs and proceeded to decimate Hawaii's native slug species. Hawaii had over 700 species of endemic slugs and within a few years over 90% were extinct. Those 2 invasive slugs now dominate the islands.
