This highlights how much the Internet has changed. Originally, you had to be computer literate to be online. This is from the time when you had to at least be literate to be online. Nowadays, all sorts of sub-humans and non-humans have 24/7 connectivity.
I often have told people the internet was a mistake. But, you're right. Smartphones were the real one. Maybe even cell phones were. I'd roll back to my old Blackberry in a second. It did enough with phone/text/email/calendar to allow survival in the modern world. If I could drag the world back with me, I'd really have little complaint with a voice only phone.
It's a microcosm of what's been happening to our country over the course of my lifetime as well. Everything is great when you keep out the riffraff, but once you let everyone in it all goes to shit.
The old internet was a place of wonder, joy and utter surprise. The last great frontier...now overrun by a billion animals and forever ruined.

Hah, still so good. That guy in the yellow shirt looks suspiciouly like Gabe. I checked the other day, and Penny Arcade is (shockingly, to me) still around and releasing comics. One of them has a trans non binary kid IRL now.
I was unable to detect any hint of comedy in the cartoon, but I guess some people still read it?
Penny Arcade now looks so disgusting. They really beat everything with an ugly stick. I guess the only thing they're really known for now is creating the PAX convention.

I liked the OG and some of the later styles. Once Gabe went all in on disgusting malformed bulbous noses, I was out.
And I thought the Tumblr style was bad, this looks like even more gross version of Rick and morty in 30s animations style
How the fuck are they making money? I saw a little while ago they still have a "studio" that they do streams from.
I thought they just coast on their brand from 20 years ago and use it to organize woke video game conventions
They sold the conventions years ago. Probably made a lot of money. They don’t attend anymore.
I’m assuming they made their load years ago and are now just coasting…
