Extraction shooters are never going to be for everyone
You're making your own counterpoint
the art direction is distinct
Dehumanized robots are tranny coded
live service games can be super successful for years
The top games in live service are top because of the network effect. Good luck to anyone clueless enough to believe otherwise. The ladder's been pulled up.
Highguard died for its ambition
LOL
people would be calling it bold, fresh, and one of the most interesting shooters in years
Regardless of which studio's name is on the cover, the only people who would do this are tranny lovers like OP (probably). It's kind of crazy that you can stereotype people by the way they respond to a video game, but I feel like all the markers are there.
Remember when the Xbox One failed for being always online?
They were just ahead of the game and pushed to quickly, now everyone is releasing always online multi-player only games and these same people are glazing them like crazy.
If the size of the userbase directly affects user experience, then people will stay with your product simply because it has the highest userbase. E.g. Google completely failed at competing with Facebook with a social media product because Facebook is a massive beneficiary of the network effect (hundreds of millions of users).
Marathon's aesthetic is so obviously an attempt at an end-run around the anti-woke market. The trannies and other assorted leftist freaks who dominate modern Bungie thought they could cleverly circumvent muh oppressive cis-het beauty standards by adopting these heinously ugly queer-coded asexual robot characters. Nope lol
Bonus laughs: the game's entire revenue model hinges on people voluntarily purchasing these god awful character skins. I'm guessing Marathon's conversion rate is way below the norm for these games. Because who wants to pony up even more money for these hideous guns and outfits.

That's exactly it. Truly bizarre that a robot game is so obviously a symptom of mental illness, but it is.
The old Marathon would've been a BREATH OF FUCKING FRESH AIR in this time of AI slop and the same-ification of everything.
It was dark, it was scary, everything felt empty and lonely. You were one fucking guy going against a horde of aliens that wasn't just "bad guys", but they were actually evil - operated using a caste system and all that too. Extremely foreign. They had their own history, its own culture, its own way of doing things. Every alien race you fought had a deep fucking backstory. Every unit was "explained" - fighters, hunters, enforcers, etc.
The problem is that Bungie does not exist - those people are scattered, they will never work together again.
OH, Marathon had a FUN fucking multiplayer mode - a lot of Halo's multiplayers were inspired off of it.
Durandal and Tycho as AIs were well written megalomaniacs too. They HATED each other, and they both thought they knew how the universe would collapse upon itself. They were immortal, and they really had this sense of being in the Marathon universe.
The art style is repulsive, and if I remember right, stolen. It's not even the first time they stole an art idea and just claimed it as their own. Their being Bungie.
Extraction shooters are about 3 years too late to the party, and 8 years too late to be at the ground floor to make any sort of gain and keep an audience that can sustain it.
I ain't reading all that. The only reason Marathon has any players is because it's apparently an OK game (I haven't played it) because bungie knows how to put a functional game together.
If it wasn't an OK game it would have Highguarded into the sunset by now.
Yeah I have some friends that typically avoid all the obvious garbage AAA games but are enjoying the hell out of Marathon. I don't play extraction shooters so I'm not aware of all the details of the genre, but they seem to think it is the best extraction shooter from a gameplay perspective. Something about being rewarded for not extracting and that the resource system is better designed than other extraction shooters.
The funny thing is that they also think the game is going to fail at some point because of how Bungie ended up ruining Destiny 2 (again I don't really know details, not my genre).
Marathon would be doing better if it was actually Marathon, instead of a trannybot extraction shooter live service slop wearing Marathon's skin suit.
Seriously, how do you take a game series that became a cult classic for its deep story and time/dimension hopping shenanigans, throw all that out, and then become confused when no one wants to play your version?
Honestly I think there is a chance it might be doing slightly better if it wasn't published by bungie. Not because it's a good game or really anything groundbreaking. But solely because holy fuck bungie dropped the ball so damn hard with this game so many times. From the art theft issue, delays, stupid posts and this is without even mentioning all the baggage from their other games

All that just to try and handwave away the fact that normal people find troons repulsive and evil.

Or maybe the whole genre is overcrowded and has been beaten to death for years?
Insane troons with their insane analysis
