CEO Asks ChatGPT How to Void $250 Million Contract, Ignores His Lawyers, Loses Terribly in Court
The CEO of Krafton used ChatGPT to push out the head of the studio developing Subnautica 2 against the advice of his own legal team and failed miserably.
I still don't forgive the devs for what they did to the soundtrack creator for the original so this just seems like scumbags jumping in bed with corporate scumbags getting burned.
What did they do? I LOVE the subnautica 1 soundtrack.
Fired him for making Apache attack helicopter jokes on Twitter and being right-wing. He also was responsible for the entire sound design not just the soundtrack. So basically he's the primary reason why Subnautica was as successful as it was.
That's the reason why I'll never play the DLC and 2 if 2 has the current devs.
I got the DLC for free, still not playing it as I know it'll have those annoying characters. When they said they were adding the bigger rooms and a few things from the DLC into the base game, I did another playthrough of subnautica.
Whatever you think of the dlc i can assure you it's worse than that. Played it myself.
Well fuck, sticking to the original then with the bigger rooms added in.
When I do a next playthrough, going to make a megabase on the island.
You'll enjoy the view, i had the same idea.
I was thinking about subnautica recently and also came to the conclusion that the sound design basically sold the game. Take away the impeccable sound design and what you get is just another survival game but this time you float instead of walking. Womble mentioned it in his Forest essay that the game was developed first and then the story was added to make it a complete product and in the end the story ended up being detached from the game and the last quest is the devs scrambling to come up with some sort of a climax and just giving you two collectibles missions one after another. Absolute letdown. But all is forgiven because the gameplay is serviceable and the sound design coupled with visuals absolutely enchants you the first time you play it.
Coop will ruin the 2nd one if it ever comes out.
I thought it was ok. The characters are stupid, but it is still more subnautica.
African PDA really woke me up but apart from that: the surface travel always bugged for me. I played the game twice, first in early access (i think) and then on release. Both times the worm and snowmobile were bugging heavily. The surface bit also dragged on and overstayed its welcome with me since it was just a labirynth with an enemy you can't get rid of. The plot was retarded and the map itself was okay i guess but i couldn't shake the feeling that i was doing the same things i did before for way less gain. The truck was stupid compared to cyclops and the map was pretty small anyway.
I agree on all counts, but exploring map, discovering everything and building a base was still pretty fun imo. The snowfox sucks to drive but you can just use the prawn suit to traverse that area easily.
It's significantly worse than the original in every way, but it does have a totally new world, with mostly new creatures and biomes. I enjoyed that part.
You mean you don’t like the archetype of Wheatley and Nigress that shows up in a growing number of games now?
I'll never buy another Unknown Worlds game ever again. I would have refunded Subnautica too if I had still been able to but alas a negative review has to suffice. It's been up since 2018 and I'll never change it. Also never finished the game. Not sure if I have even touched it once since they fired the guy.
Just my opinion, but I think you're fine playing the first game since that, just by how much the sound design matters in that game, is HIS magnum opus.
Plus the soundtrack sales goes to him so you're fine with that too.
Too bad for the game. The devs turned it into a woke shitshow with the DLC and 2 will probably be even worse.
Should try calling them racists maybe that will work
The article is hilarious
Both ChatGPT and his actual employees told him there was basically no way out of the contract, but ChatGPT will agree with you if you keep asking it:
Hahahahahahahaha
You missed the best part:
He spazzed out because he thought the game would sell well, the dev would earn their reward, and he would look like a chump for keeping his word. Honor societies need to be launched into the sun.
When Robert Downy Jr. got a ridiculously good-in-hindsight contract for Iron Man from Disney, did Disney get mocked and called a chump? Not really. They just say that RDJ had good intuition in his contract-making since it was a gamble.
Same would have applied here. It's not a pushover contract, and the CEO is a moron for thinking it was. it's the devs getting a solid agreement and thus producing a solid product. Without the good contract, it's perfectly likely they wouldn't have tried as hard, and thus, not wind up with as much sales.
CEO should have taken the "L" which wasn't an L, paid out the devs, and parlayed the good reputation from that into big pre-sales for another game which they put less money into and rug-pull that one on the customers. Like sane AA game studios do.
Man I love Subnautica, why so much drama, just make game!
