Regardless of what people think about him,he has a ton of iconic action movie moments too.
The shower room showdown in The Rock is one of the most intense moments in movie history.
Nicholas Cage struggling to pop the flares mimicking Willem Dafoe's death scene from Platoon while the jets fly overhead is still epic as heck.
That ending raid sequence in Bad Boys 2 is still awesome to this very day (plus the MPD decked out in milspec gear made them look absolutely badass).
You could pick any big moment from the Transformers movies and it will still get the heart racing and the blood pumping.
The more Hollywood slop that's produced the more I have come to appreciate Michael Bay and his practical approach to action sequencing, despite his movies being braindead popcorn fanfare.
Zero respect for a source material that hardly has any lore to it. I would say it's a lazy director but I think it's another Uve Bowell case. Just directing low hanging fruit video game IPs and making the movies bad with malice behind it.
It's going to get worse. Until people finally decide the consequences of inaction (losing what we love forever) are worse than those of action (inconvenience and discomfort).
Lin is not a gamer and leaned into that as a strength when pitching his take on the material, said insiders. He aims to find the humanity in the characters and weave timely themes into the story, while building out a world and mythology. There are plenty of details waiting to be drawn in, something that is compelling to the filmmaker.
Don't forget the evil "huwhyte racist" who will bully the girlboss and her black/latinX girlfriend, only for him to end up in a bad predicament and then have to apologise and admit that the Mary Sue was "right all along", just before meeting a cowardly and untimely demise.
I bet it's going the be like that awful Paramount+ Halo show. Nothing but poorly written melodrama wearing a skinsuit of the game it's supposed to be adapting.
What's funny is that Helldivers was already current year "subversion" for the modern audience. It literally opens with a mixed race couple in its propaganda video.
They literally don't need to change a thing about it and it'll adapt perfectly fine into Woke slop. The only concern is if they make it look too good and people ignore that subversion, which is what happened with the game itself.
There are female Helldivers in the game... So that means ALL competent helldivers will be women in this adaptation. All leaders, generals, admirals, etc will be mostly women and minorities. Any male helldivers will die in hilarious gory ways, especially leaders, so that the women can rise up and grrlboss their way to victory.
I'm kind of proud that I didn't even know they were making a 'Helldivers' movie. I'll be even prouder to walk past theaters where it's playing without even glancing at the posters.
Brag of not being from what they subvert. They keep doing it because they don't get punished for desecrating everything.
I remember after so many years of fans of the animation series unfortunatly named ''ReBoot'' begging for something to pick-up the unfinished story, they finally made ''something''. Which was absolutely fucking nothing whatsoever of what the fans wanted. It was a hate-letter to the fans.
It was a live-action ( nobody wanted that ) abomination re-do that shat on the original in a totally nonsensical way openly and visciously shat on the fans, written by people who absolutely hated the fans.
Ex : The ''diverse'' human characters, when they get into Mainframe, insult the original's graphics for being dated/bad... except the graphics of the original still look great today, so it just sounded retarded.
Have the authors seen the garbage produced by Western animation and games studios today before writing that shit? Probably. But that was not going to stop zir from shitting on the original and the fans.
The authors put a ''ReBoot fan'' stand-in. A litteral dirty neckbeard who is, of course, a ( White male ) villain.
There were some aspects of his Star Trek Beyond movie I liked (it’s not really “Star Trek” though) So I’m sure it’ll be visually good. But he’s not got the military sci-fi chops, let alone military chops. Which means, he’s probably going to do a fast and furious in the helldivers universe. (Which is what stb really was)
This kind of thing is exactly why the Halo series on Paramount is trash. Couldn't make it beyond the first episode. The Spartans behaved nothing like the killing machines they are, and more like a bunch of show-off douche bags who let helpless people die unnecessarily so they could look cool.
Well this'll suck, you'd be literally better off getting Michael Bay to direct it.
At least Micheal Bay would make the fights look cool.
Say what you will about his movies, but the man definitely knows how to direct a good action scene.
And he hasn't been topped.

Why do they hire these people to adapt things?
They hate you, and take pleasure in your suffering.
I’ve never even played it but this pattern of hiring someone with zero respect for the source material is beyond absurd

And the love losing money.
Have you not gotten the message about Marxism yet?
Yes. Just tiring to see this over and over
It's going to get worse. Until people finally decide the consequences of inaction (losing what we love forever) are worse than those of action (inconvenience and discomfort).
Same, my dude
Because the wrong people enjoyed Helldivers

Ah, so it's going to be current-year slop for the "modern audience".
Starship troopers but without the charms and more space trumpler
Gotta have the brown girlboss, queer subplot and "people being mean to the poor immigrants are the REAL monsters!" drivel.

Oh man, this is going to be pure garbage

Reminds me of Rian Johnson having Luke unceremoniously chuck his lightsaber off a cliff when we first see him in tlj.
All that matters is that they subvert expectations and "own the chuds".
Uwe Boll was honest at least.

I can't wait for the game that is based on this movie that is going to be based on a game that was originally based on a movie.
