How very libertarian of him to keep himself paid with tax dollars for doing jack shit while the government is shut down. He is singlehandedly lowering my opinion of libertarians as a whole, and I already didn't like them much.
I love these MAGA influencers and their clickbait to generate revenue for them.
If you watch the whole thing, like I did, you will see that it's a healthy debate, both Kennedy and Paul have very compelling arguments, Paul even mentions shrinking the government.
Maybe Paul wants to pay essential workers, if you don't pay soldiers you have to draft them for a war them everybody suffers. Soldiers have a contract. If you don't pay air traffic staff, less flights will be flown and people in the private sector will suffer too.
Maybe Kennedy wants to stop paying congress during a shutdown to force the same congress to vote on ending it and approving whatever measure is necessary to continue funding the government.
Maybe Paul wants to show that some people in the government are essential (you may disagree or not) and need to be pay to provide some service to the population that is still paying taxes.
Maybe Kennedy wants to show that the congress is useless and non essential and doesn't need to be paid as they are not doing anything.
I love these MAGA influencers and their clickbait to generate revenue for them.
"MAGA" is being pretty kind in this instance. Dude is hardcore MIGA, and almost certainly a paid shill.

Yeah. I'm willing to criticize Rand Paul when he's wrong (as I just did in OP's other thread bashing Rand), and I think he could have phrased this better, but "Gunther Eagleman" is being pretty disingenuous here, no surprise.
Person who hates Rand Paul for not being a globalist, finds a reason to criticize Rand Paul. Nonissue. This is the very well-funded faction that is going after MTG, Massie, Rand, as well as the non-politicians like Tucker, Dave Smith, Candace, Fuentes.
Again, willing to criticize Paul when he's in the wrong, but this is just another smear.
This isn't just a smear, saying that government employees should get payed during a shutdown is NOT mutually exclusive with saying that congressional politicians shouldn't. THEY are the ones causing the shutdown so THEY shouldn't get paid until it's over, but that doesn't mean we can't pay the soldiers and air traffic guys. The ONLY reason to object to that notion is that he wants to keep getting HIS paycheck.
He isn't getting smeared for wanting to pay TSA employees. He is getting smeared because he is acting like not paying politicians somehow means that we can't also pay TSA employees.
It's a complete non sequitur. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
Paul is fighting for nothing, because there's no chance of his bill being passed. At least if he agreed to pass Kennedy's bill, then congressmen would have more incentive to avoid shutdowns since they're not getting paid, but saying "actually we can just pay everyone and never have shutdowns" is not realistic.
Not American, so i must be missing something. It feels very weird watching all the news of federal employees queueing up at food banks after missing a month's pay. isnt this something that everyone knew is highly likely to happen, given the political context, months in advance? Even disregarding the general recommendations of always having a couple months' worth of expenses in a savings account, what happened to just planning ahead for a very expected disruption in income?
Seriously, Covid era wasn't more than a handful of years ago, people should still remember that it SCREWED everyone with the shutdown orders for no reason. Everyone should have a rainy year fund put aside, as soon as practical to do so.
But government employees I guess thought the gravy train was infinite and unceasing?
I think they should be required to stay in session and on the Senate and House floor until they reopen government.
They can be escorted to the bathroom by the Capitol police but other than that they should be stuck there. And they should only get Nutraloaf and tepid water once a day.

This guy is the epitome of a "principled" loser.
Tbh politicians should only be paid upon results. And bring back banishment for failure.
They should tie their salary to their community's average
Darn, just when I opened my "Pinocchio" themed one-way helicopter ride for 'dual loyalty' politicians...

They aren't mutually exclusive. Paul has zero reason to object to Kennedy's proposal as it does nothing to stop his.

My cousin works for the TSA, and even though they still expect him to come into work, he hasn't been paid a cent during this shutdown.
I didn't think I could hate the government any more than I already did, but there ya go.
For the record, Rand Paul is fighting for your cousin in this clip, and getting smeared as a greedy traitor for it by the America Lasters.

Fewer.
Rand Paul has been making a huge ass of himself lately.
This is one of those great ideas that fall apart under 2nd order thinking.
Only the honest politicians would suffer from losing their congressional pay cheque.
This would basically target Thomas Massive and MTG and I'm sure a handful of others.
Shumer/one eyed macCain wouldn't even notice.
There are no honest multiple term politicians

In America, government employees include tons of DEI hires, who aren't exactly known for their long term planning ability.

If they don't like it they can resign.
