It seemed dumb that these same kids in this same podunk town would keep stumbling across the supernatural. You can only be surprised to find dinosaurs on Jurassic Park so many times.
It had so much potential to be an X-Files style monster of the season show. Instead, it’s the same group of “kids”, same stupid drama, and same nostalgia and fandom baiting bull.
This is the main issue. The kid group aren't characters, they are a framing device for every viewer to project their own adolescent kid group onto. Once they start trying to develop the characters it was pure pozzed trash
I tried to watch part of it once with my wife, and when they had to stop in the middle of a "someone is about to die" emergency to let two characters full smiles and hype sing the Neverending Story song in its entirety I knew exactly what this series was trying to do in terms of emotional manipulation.
I get wanting to be pandered to with nostalgia from your childhood, but has that specific age group not had it enough?
It was all a girl power moment, as well. Where they portrayed that little girl as some sort of science wiz - the dream of the Hollywoke establishment - hoping to get little girls interested in hard science by making her crucial to the other kids saving the day.
At least it was an accurate "woman moment" as well. Fuck other people dying, what have you done for me lately?! You gotta please your woman's arbitrary whims before any thing else.
I stopped watching at the end of Season 1. Besides the first season being a fully complete and satisfactory self contained story on it's own...
The post season interview between the show writers and the two kids in the main cast made it fairly apparent that those two guys are pedophiles.

-will is gay for the other kid
-steve friendzoned by a lesbian
-older men are evil sexists
-black interracial minor kiss
-grrrlpower out the wazoo
-actual interesting characters killed off
Ive always thought if it went the AHS route of new season=new stories and characters, it would've been great.
I always saw it as a Super 8 (2011) knockoff with the nostalgia dial turned to 11 and the alien creature substituted with an interdimensional monster.
I really liked Super 8 but I actually think it would have worked better as a series than a film.
And the red head is paired with the black boy.
Well ginger is an anagram

"Stop the apocalypse, I need to make a Tiktok dance vid."
Yeah, that was the biggest cringe moment in quite some time.
Yeah, I hate that season even though I loved the monster.
Only good part of that series is the hot mom in the bathing suit.
lol
