It had so much potential to be an X-Files style monster of the season show. Instead, it’s the same group of “kids”, same stupid drama, and same nostalgia and fandom baiting bull.
This is the main issue. The kid group aren't characters, they are a framing device for every viewer to project their own adolescent kid group onto. Once they start trying to develop the characters it was pure pozzed trash
-will is gay for the other kid
-steve friendzoned by a lesbian
-older men are evil sexists
-black interracial minor kiss
-grrrlpower out the wazoo
-actual interesting characters killed off
Ive always thought if it went the AHS route of new season=new stories and characters, it would've been great.
I always saw it as a Super 8 (2011) knockoff with the nostalgia dial turned to 11 and the alien creature substituted with an interdimensional monster.
I really liked Super 8 but I actually think it would have worked better as a series than a film.
