The why is because they hate white men
In all my life I’ve been to so many gatherings of sci fi nerds and they skew heavily male and of the males majority white. Imagine some idiot executive who sees that and says let’s cater to lgbt and women

Disney fails with men for the same reason the rest of Hollywood does:
The directors, screenwriters, script writers, and story writers are all progressives, and have the same insular world view. As progressive has radicalized to hard left beliefs, they drove away or cowed into silence anyone that doesn't think like they do, and now they produce garbage that doesn't resonate with the average guy, because these Hollywood people hate the average guy, in a real and visceral sense.
Look at the visceral hate towards Chris Pratt, an otherwise pretty progressive guy who just happens to go to church and isn't ashamed of admitting to it. That's how deep into the purity spiral they are, that he seems like an offensive outsider to be purged.
With that as the example, its quite obvious that the norm is so much further Left that nothing could possibly squeak through without being forced to bend the knee. Guys like Clint Eastwood or James Woods only get by on legacy.
Hedonists don’t like being moralized to and that is essentially the basis of the left/right schisms
Sharing because this isn't only about Star Wars or Disney. This applies basically to all modern western media
Tl;dw: Corpos introduce cute mascot characters to take advantage of women's maternal instincts, problem is, they don't want them to grow or develop, they want it to stay cute.
Contrast this with how movies were, ironically made with women as the centerpiece. It motivated men and forced them to mature by appealing to their provider and protector nature.
Movies aimed at men gave us aspirational characters because those characters were expected to change in order to raise up to the challenges of the world. Movies nowdays are about validating the choices of static characters, this is why we get immoral characters that are handed everything to them
The whole idea of boys want to become something. While girls want something to become them.
Self inserts. Only thing is the people doing self inserts are lame, gay and demonic.

I remember as a kid when my friend and I were doing a war with our gi joes and his little sister wanted to play but she wanted to pair them up with her Barbies as couples and play house. We said no and she came back with their mother and his mom forced us to play as she wanted. Guess I got a sneak peak on that day in the late 80s of the future

It's funny. Despite being the "Girl's Brand" Disney used to be good at making things that guys could get behind. Aladdin, Gargoyles, Tarzan, Stitch (before they completely neutered him for marketing purposes.) Treasure Planet could have been a solid franchise if they hadn't actively sabotaged it.
It's like they just can't help but shoot themselves in the foot when appealing to guys is involved.
Its the ancient "two demos" problem that producers force in all media. All those old shows had their two demos covered, in that it was made for boys but still had a chick character or a "love story/arc" for girls to technically be appealed to.
Once you couldn't just have a background/weaker girl, or one whose entire point was being the love interest, they were forced to try and push them into the men's roles. And in doing so, just drove those boys out because it just doesn't work the same way.
It can be summed up in 1 word. Feminism
Could be a shorter word too.
