To be clear on the details of this case: the order to cull this herd was based on a pair of faulty, bullshit tests done a year ago. If any of these birds had actually had avian flu even at that time, they would all either be dead or immune by now. Throughout the ensuing legal proceedings, the CFIA has relied exclusively on those two false positives to support their order to cull the herd, and the courts have gone along with them. They have refused to retest the birds and are now threatening to issue six figure fines to anyone who tries to test them again.
There is no public health risk here. This is about something else entirely.
Makes you wonder if some friend of the state wants the land the farm is on.
Edit:
These birds are not raised for human consumption. Instead, they’ve been part of a scientific collaboration with Kyoto Prefectural University in Japan, where researchers led by President Dr. Yasuhiro Tsukamoto have been extracting antibodies from ostrich eggs to develop new treatments and interventions against avian flu — the very disease the CFIA claims justifies their destruction.
But such natural, low-cost progress doesn’t fit neatly alongside the $590 million grant Moderna recently received to develop mRNA vaccines for bird flu.
Their farm goes against Mode-RNA's product development schedule. They're standing in the way of Big Pharma. And the footsoldiers of Big Pharma are the government, who deployed their own foot soldiers in turn.
If the tests were a year ago, that's the best evidence against what they're doing. One does not have to debate whether it's appropriate to cull livestock to prevent the spread of bird flu if your response is so slow that it would not prevent the spread of bird flu, yet there is no other evidence of bird flu.

"Trust the settled science, bigot!"

There it is!
Them killing off ANY reason to produce ANYTHING in Canada?
Probably just good old fashioned tyrants being mad at someone for defying them even slightly and within a legal framework.
Never anger Shaniqua at the DMV. She has 100 ways to fuck over your day.
