All dogs can bite. Some are more prone than others.. some more vicious than others. And some will fuck you up.
Pitbulls seems to be able to fuck you up and seem to be more prone to do it.
No one is gonna be scared of a 4 pound pomeranian that is hyper aggressive since it wont really do much damage at all to you.. unless you are a baby or immobilized. You can swat them away.
But pit bulls are like 60 pounds of pure muscle and jaw. You are gonna get stitches, get disfigured or die from a pitbull attack. All pitbulls should be sterlizrd imo and let the breed fade out.

Had my 20 lb chihuahua mix with me, some middle eastern guy seen that dog coming and flattened himself up against the wall. My dog even gave him a strange look lmao.
I used to think all chihuahua's were ankle biters, most of the ones I have met were anyway. Turns out they are just super energetic dogs and if you dont walk/socialize them properly, they become assholes, kinda like people.

I think pitbulls get a bad rep, the dogs that, israel for example, uses for war are typically bigger or meaner.
Meanest dog I ever met belonged to a police officer, dude watched me as I tried to pet it and at the very last second warns me that I shouldnt try that if I wanted to keep my fingers. It was a german shepherd also.
That and the trait that sets pitbulls apart from other dangerous dog breeds is the chance that they'll snap into a homicidal rage at any time. There have been several cases now where a well-behaved, well-socialized family dogs have killed children after growing up with them for years.

Yet, ownership of cobras, wolves, tigers, alligators, tigers, bears, and mules exist. All of them can kill you, some of them faster than any pitbull that has ever lived.
Yes, it is, in fact, about training. Yes, governments are well within their rights to say "no ownership of this animal in our city limits", or "no ownership of this animal without abiding by training, licensing, and shelter standards". All of that exists. Yet, for some reason, you can't even imagine how it would ever be possible to allow any pitbull to exist. No regulations are possible. No licenses are possible. No restrictions are possible. All most be sterilized and/or killed because owning a pitbull is far more dangerous than owning any other animal on the face of the earth.
Excepting mules, which are beasts of labor, almost all of these are both extremely frowned upon to own as a pet and are in fact illegal in many places to do so.
And even ignoring that, the majority of them are not "take for a walk" pets. They are kept away from most potential dangers excepting to the owner themselves. Even if they escape, most of them will simply run and act like a scared animal instead of a deliberately aggressive threat, because they lack the domestication of a dog that makes them more comfortable around humans. Not always, but a comfortable amount of the time.
I've been around escaped gator pets. The only damage that usually happens is to the gator and the property.

Because that's my problem. People are acting like there is no justifiable reason to allow anyone, even zoos, to own or maintain Pitbulls because they must be killed, because they are literally uncontrollable murder machines.
That position, one that Matt Walsh advocates, is so fucking retarded it can't be allowed to be stated in public without being challenged. Yes, it is an aggressive animal. Yes, you have to be a responsible dog owner. Yes, if you would like to introduce additional requirements for ownership that's fine. But outright banning and then killing off the entire breed is fucking stupid and always will be. I will remind you that we have laws on the books where people who own exotic animals can be personally held liable for any and all damages an escaped animal may cause, regardless of whether it was an accidental escape or not.
Not really, because most of those regulations apply because they cover the entire animal, rather than a specific breed of it. If we started applying them then we would quickly become "one drop rule" crusaders looking for the exact moment Pitbull genes qualify in the legion of mutts running around. Whereas a cobra is a fucking cobra almost 100% of the time. And if a particularly dangerous specimen showed up, we wouldn't even discuss just ending it.
Dogs have their purposes, of which pitbulls fail nearly every one due to their dangerous nature. They aren't natural animals who play an environmental role, so they don't get the same protections that almost everything you listed do in terms of "we need them regardless of danger" like bears or wolves.
The only thing they are good at is violence, and that benefit isn't strong enough to outweigh the risk their existence brings. This isn't a police dog breed that can be trained to be an efficient machine with strength and authority, its an unstable, emotional breed. Which is why people go after it instead of things like rottweilers and the like who have similar dangers.
We literally played God and created them. The least we can do is fix our mistakes. Again, these are not naturally occurring animals. We are going down the road of the new Jurassic Park movies where we have to let the violent monsters live because "well they are alive so!!" now.
And if this was mostly a problem of them getting out and fucking up people's property that might be an issue. Something money can fix.
People get particular about pitbulls because they keep killing children. Something a guy going "my bad bro, here's 10k for my messup" is more of a slap in the face instead of a makegood.
If an educational zoo wished to showcase a Pit in a secure environment comparable to the environments for bears, greater cats, or wolves, then there obviously is no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to with accreditation.

Nobody said that. What someone said is that the entire concept of ownership of the animal should be criminalized in all cases, and the entire breed should be sterilized.
Congratulations, ownership with accreditation is allowed in all 50 states and doesn't require mass sterilization or euthanasia, and would still alleviate your concern.
cobras, wolves, tigers, alligators, bears are extremely niche pets and most of the time.. they are usually they are never around children.. while people treat pitbulls as a normal dog and have them around children. or the kinda owners that own them have them not contained on their property.
alright, sure. fine. you can own a pitbull, but you should be LIABLE for any damage it does. thats for sure. same as if your pet tiger or pet bear does something, you should be liable.
not saying exterminate pitbulls, but should let the breed die out. let the current ones live out their life. we can live without pitbulls while we have other dogs that probably wont kill you like a poodle or a labrador.
Being liable for what your pet does is the law in all 50 states.
The exotic animal rule would add on that it could be felonious, even if it was a genuine accident that the animal got out. And all of that is perfectly achievable.
The problem isn't just your insecurity around the animal, but the need for a government sterilization program on a dog breed, that someone declared to be too dangerous to exist. Yes, that will absolutely be expanded out to German Shepards, Belgian Malinois (both are "known weapons of war'), Mastiffs, Akitas, Dobermans, Rottweilers, and many, many more.
Eventually, morons will make additional stupid arguments with bastardized statistics because there will people demanding the mass euthanasia of Huskies (lots of attacks on children), and Golden Retrievers (large number of absolute attacks, what is per capita?).

I got a neighbor who spent over 20 years as an ER surgeon. He told me 99% of maulings, not just a dog bit you but a dog held on and wouldn't let go and tried to shred you apart and/or EAT you, it was a pit. Staffordshire terrier, bull terrier, whatever fucking name the owners claim they are, it's a pit. Dogs are natural pack animals and one of the dangerous things about pits is that they have had many of their pack instincts bred out of them to promote dog fighting. This is why the dogs "just snap" one day because oh a baby coughed or someone bent down to pick up a pencil within reaching distance. Even for pits that were lovingly raised in a caring home all their lives, they'll maul and kill their owners. Of course not every pit will attack, but it's so prevalent it's insane. What used to be the procedure was that pits got put down if they came to the shelters. Garbage dogs. Unfit for being pets. But then two incidents happened: the first was the Michael Vick dogfighting bust and bleeding hearts decided it was 'how you raise them' and 'give these dogs a second change' campaign bullshit convincing people that it's just 'doggy racism' to discriminate against pits. The second is that hurricanes Katrina and Rita broke apart a lot of dogfighting rings in the South, dogs got picked up and 'aww they just need a real home' across the country.
Nowadays pits have infected just about every dog shelter in America. Pit owners are retarded and refuse to neuter their dogs far more than other dog owners, and pits have larger litters than the average dog (12 puppies is not uncommon). The 'American mutt' is long gone, shelters are packed with pits or 'lab mixes' which are just more fucking pits. On average they're some of the dumbest dogs in existence and often have health problems like skin diseases (that rashy redness around the muzzle) because of course the people who bred these mutants didn't give a fuck about the health of the dog so long as it could maul.
Youtube loves filling video suggestions of pit propaganda slop from The Dodo or whatever to trick people into thinking if they just pour enough love into Nala or Luna or Diesel or Jackson they'll have a normal dog and not something that's more prone to killing and disfiguring both humans and other dogs more than every single other dog breed combined.
