I got a neighbor who spent over 20 years as an ER surgeon. He told me 99% of maulings, not just a dog bit you but a dog held on and wouldn't let go and tried to shred you apart and/or EAT you, it was a pit. Staffordshire terrier, bull terrier, whatever fucking name the owners claim they are, it's a pit. Dogs are natural pack animals and one of the dangerous things about pits is that they have had many of their pack instincts bred out of them to promote dog fighting. This is why the dogs "just snap" one day because oh a baby coughed or someone bent down to pick up a pencil within reaching distance. Even for pits that were lovingly raised in a caring home all their lives, they'll maul and kill their owners. Of course not every pit will attack, but it's so prevalent it's insane. What used to be the procedure was that pits got put down if they came to the shelters. Garbage dogs. Unfit for being pets. But then two incidents happened: the first was the Michael Vick dogfighting bust and bleeding hearts decided it was 'how you raise them' and 'give these dogs a second change' campaign bullshit convincing people that it's just 'doggy racism' to discriminate against pits. The second is that hurricanes Katrina and Rita broke apart a lot of dogfighting rings in the South, dogs got picked up and 'aww they just need a real home' across the country.

Nowadays pits have infected just about every dog shelter in America. Pit owners are retarded and refuse to neuter their dogs far more than other dog owners, and pits have larger litters than the average dog (12 puppies is not uncommon). The 'American mutt' is long gone, shelters are packed with pits or 'lab mixes' which are just more fucking pits. On average they're some of the dumbest dogs in existence and often have health problems like skin diseases (that rashy redness around the muzzle) because of course the people who bred these mutants didn't give a fuck about the health of the dog so long as it could maul.

Youtube loves filling video suggestions of pit propaganda slop from The Dodo or whatever to trick people into thinking if they just pour enough love into Nala or Luna or Diesel or Jackson they'll have a normal dog and not something that's more prone to killing and disfiguring both humans and other dogs more than every single other dog breed combined.
