IIRC, most of the “stuff” is direct from the comic (I read the comic past the show, and stopped watching the show sometime shortly after Nagen).

From the show, if I recall correctly, they killed off Hershel as they did because he was such a popular character and a basically old-timey southern religious good guy.

The quality declined when they tried to 'salvage' a well, which had a rotting, bloated, stinking corpse inside of it, which they tried to get out, despite being stuck there for well over a week or longer, rofl.
It was, yet almost every character anyone has ever cared about was some form of masculine male. From Rick to Shane to Negan.
The only time people even could name a female character was Clementine from the games, and that's because they were Telltale VNs made to emotionally manipulate you into protecting little girl (like most games from that time).

There are a lot of changes from the get go. Rick is the one who loses his hand in the comics, not Yondu.
