It screams desperation as they already failed in their 'official' goal of gate keeping porn and already showed their hand trying to suppress protest footage and even Wikipedia articles.
I feel though, their incompetent grasping to remain in power is rousing beasts as they are currently being sued by both Apple and Wikipedia.
But more than that, unlike the countries you mentioned who have similar policies, the UK like many western countries have A LOT of criminal networks using Tor and things like it. I can actually see MORE cyberattacks on weak UK infrastructure security in retaliation for stepping on their toes.
More and more people are just flouting their new laws to the point they can't deal with or arrest them all.
The system is already leaking passports on Google search results in less than 24 hours. It will be blown wide open in 2 weeks with everyones private info up for grabs because the government is brain dead in terms of IT
Yeah, I kind of smirk when people start acting like the UK has just become a draconian nanny state. It was called a nanny state 25+ years ago. It's nothing new.
To the surprise of nobody here, and yet many being affected by this as the tip of the spear flashed past them at a speed rivaling even the covid power grabs. Difference this time is there's next to no participation by the ignorant public so they can't even feel like they are contributing to solving whatever problem has been made up this time.
So considering how trustworthy they are that means they're definitely doing it, they're just talk about and do something else which happens to also block VPNs.
If the people can't voice their frustrations online, perhaps they're more likely to band together and take to the streets? Might be wishful thinking but the logic is sound.
How do you ban a VPN? If I'm connecting to the Bahamas or whatever, how does the government control that? Are they going to force every local ISP to block outgoing traffic to every single VPN service or something?

So it's like all of the rest of the laws, cherry picked and used against anyone at anytime they want to
Yep, just this time they hit TOO many places at once that their incompetence is getting too much attention.
You underestimate the UKs desire to arrest them all [White males].

Boomers gonna boom.
there is only one thing worse than a boomer
an indian
I’m surprised the free internet lasted this long in the UK. 30+ years is impresssive considering it’s been an unrestrained Nanny-state for 50+ years.

Some of them will be satisfied to rat on their neighbours' online activity for the Starmer Points™ alone.
Then surprised when the same thing happens to them.
Or in other words, it would join basically its voting base's countries-of-origin.
Update: They said no they aren't banning VPNs
Also I am obviously not defending the UK, the US should subject them to regime change.

Shithole country.
Hopefully this all backfires on them.

And China
The world should block the UK from it.
UK gov is probably hoping that happens so they don't personally have to bother doing anything.
Or you could contribute something actually useful and post the links you have about S1748 to the thread.
Don't mock him guys. Imp has every right to be worried. He'll have to live under this crap once I get him deported back to the UK.
That's not how you spell hilarious.
Cheers.
Can you send me your IRL info, just want to check a couple of things, I will delete and not divulge, thanks
