I know. I wouldn't just buy that though. I think the strategy is for US to support Israel as much as possible without directly attacking Iran in the hopes that Iran kills some Americans whose lost lives will be used to justify war with Iran. It's a similar script as Pearl Harbor.
Neither Iran nor its proxies need to be involved for this strategy to work. Israel supports as many Islamist groups in the wider region as Iran does. This isn't secret, its overt policy*: see Israeli support for Islamists in Syria. In all likelihood an attack on Americans will come from one of the Mossad supported groups.

The US isn't involved in this just as it's not involved in the Ukraine war.
Just like we weren't initially involved in either world war. No, we were just giving supplies to one side while sanctioning the other. Never mind that wars are won by logistics, we were definitely neutral back then, just like we're being neutral in Ukraine and Iran.
In this case you can bet your ass that US tankers have been refueling Israeli planes to make the strike even possible in the first place. And there is a zero chance that Israel hasn't been given intelligence data.

Sure. I'm not clear on how true that is, but it could be fully true that Israel didn't alert us prior to, like, 24 hours before. That's fairly consistent with their history. On the other hand, I wonder if they recognized that the US wouldn't stop them, so they took silence as consent and did it anyway.

The problem is the whole idea of killing the leadership and winning a war is silly Hollywood nonsense. Unless they have a fifth column of traitors ready to take over in the vacuum, all you end up with is a bunch of pissed off survivors looking for revenge. (Israel would know this though, so maybe they do have a toady coup lined up to take over Iran, same as Syria).
