The kind of minimalist government that Paul wants is only possible in a high-trust society. And you can't have a high-trust society when it's full of low-trust people.
Lolbertarianism is not a viable path forward and it never could have been. Because it is incapable of accepting, or dealing with, the reality that is bad faith.
I think libertarianism is a good framework, but needs to be tempered with reality. Something, as you say, too many libertarians miss.
Libertarianism isn't the solution, but I personally think it should be something of a guiding principle, just not the sole one. Libertarianism for libertarianism's sake is retarded, as they so often prove.
"Libertarianism" is a naïve anachronism built on trying to drag the medieval peasant into a post industrial world. I say this as a wishful fan of of Distributivism.
Reagan granted amnesty back in '86 to 3 million with the promise that they'd actually get tough on illegal border crossings, arrest business owners that hired illegals and cut off all benefits.
They didn't.
Same with Clinton. Same with GW Bush. Same with Obama. The people working the Biden meat puppet didn't even bother asking.
As something of a libertarian myself, it always baffles me that libertarians can be so good on economics...but also so fucking retarded on the same issue. It should be their unequivocal strength, but then they often go on and fuck it up like this.
No, if you came here illegally, you don't get to compete with Americans for our jobs. You get to go home, and be grateful you get to go home.
Sad thing is, I like Rand Paul, too. I think he's one of the best politicians. But he's completely wrong here. And I wish he'd keep his mouth shut, if he's going to miss the mark so hard.
Libertarians are fucking faggots and it took me a little while to realize this. I mean sure like a lot of things it sounds great on paper.
The problem is that not everybody will live according to the same standards as you. You can have a minimalist government and then the countries that decide that they won't be doing that and will spend all their money on their military and on becoming predators and hunters will be the ones who come and take all of our shit and destroy us.
There are hunters and there are prey. I know which one I choose.
It’s a utopian ideology for a peacetime that will never exist. We will always be under siege from leftists, and libertarians are not equipped to fight them.
His dad's stance emphasized the effect of welfare, free school, etc on attracting illegal or ill-veted immigrants, but that's not enough. The real libertarian stance (which is only decentralized governance and individual freedom/responsibility) is in addition to the national border are borders at the state and county levels. If south Americans wanted to immigrate after 1900, they should have been vetted, permitted to lease a small territory, and either be admitted or ejected based on lawfulness.

I want my borders as authoritarian as possible so that inside the walls we can play in the nice Libertarian sandbox..
Shooting thieves that break onto my property is what forces a society to become high-trust.
All low-trust activity is punished with death by their victims.

They still believe assimilation is possible despite thousands of years of precedence.

Oh that's a rare one. How'd you come to that (at least in theory)? You never hear about it anymore.

No more amnesty. Fuck Rand Paul.
No the trade-off was that you came here illegally and if you got caught you got shot for invading a sovereign nation.
If you commit a crime, there wont be any punishment if you mow my yard. - Establishment 'Libertarian'

Explains why he thinks funding ice isnt impt
Leftists turn into fiscal conservatives the moment you try to fund anything that isn’t communism, and libertarians are happy to join them.

I think the same path crowder took to not becoming a libertarian anymore

Oh no, if I'm here illegally I won't be able to vote! And if I can't vote can life possibly be worth living?
