What am I talking about?
https://github.com/Suwayomi/Suwayomi-Server
It's a lightweight docker/container/program for grabbing manga and comic from various sources such as mangadex, readallcomics, weebcentral etc and putting it on your desktop. It has no ads, it can download chapters and store them as individual images or chapter cbz.
It will even update automatically when there are new chapters of a series you bookmarked
You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
well, you should try it. it's very useful. there's even an android apk
I went with Mihon myself.
I do appreciate the publishers forcing my hand here. Now I am back to the world's easiest industry to pirate and reading lots of works that I had dropped, because the scanlation stopped once it got licensed. Now I'm just reading the official release for free because its available and widely available anyway.
I'm running mine in a docker, so i took tachidesk
Fucking finally.
You have no idea how much I've wanted a program like this. Definitely grabbing it later.
If there's one thing that's pissed me off in recent years, it's how fan translators have made it completely impossible to easily download their stuff for offline consumption and backup.
it's actually been around a very long while.
File it under "new to me."
It was so frustrating trying to track stuff across different sites, all of whom seemed to make it as difficult as possible to let me save locally, that I just straight up stopped reading fan scanlations.
Thanks for the post.
Yeah, THAT'S what made you mad over the last 5 years?
thx man. stuff like this is always appreciated.
Thank you for the info.
Sad panda
You can run the .jar without jumping through Docker hoops just fine.
Ah nice, I see docker and I just nope out of a lot of things given that it takes up multiple gigs just sitting there, even without a container, and is generally pretty garbage on Windows (which I have to use for work).
Maybe I'm tech illiterate. I did manage to open it, then it launched in my browser, but I can't seem to find out how to download mangas. How do you add anything to the library?
You need to add a repository. Under settings ,browse ,extension repository
I use https://raw.githubusercontent.com/keiyoushi/extensions/repo
Then you add sources from there under browse, extensions.
It used to be easier and sources like mangadex were usually auto included but big manga sent a c&d to tachiyomi, the predecessor of this project claiming they were aiding piracy by doing so they had to separate it
I have for like 5 or more years
I'll have to check this out later. I really miss comixology.
Yep. Fair warning though, read comics online hates this app and constantly tries to break their extension so it cant read their pages. Just have to wait for someone to update the extension again
lol, faggots. They have enough issues what with Discuss wiping out all their discussion comments going back a decade or so, but sure try and clown on other free access groups because "muh pirated material".
Well they want people to go to their site for ads. And they break the extensions to force that. Plus being able to download chapters easily probably hurts them
I've been using RCO for years and never had an issue with my adblockers stopping whatever bloat the site tries to push on me.
Brave + uBlock Origin + uBlock Origin Extra.
I've certainly noticed saving pages from comics is a lot harder now as the page will detect dev tools/F12 but then I've not been making the same kinds of threads I used to when I was more invested in comics because tbh most comics currently are just shit and not worth the time. Even with the massive catalogue RCO has I've not had much motivation to save things.
Apparently the last time I did make a comic thread was Dec 2023, it's that bad nowadays.
They even block VPN which is a hard no from me
I will keep that in mind.
