Called it the day the war broke out.

For nearly 200 years, Russia has had a cultural obsession with "buffer zones." They will not sit around unless they have a couple hundred miles of potential no-man's-land between them and the nearest adversary's forces and, key, that these zones are on said enemy's side of the border. As NATO kept creeping closer and closer to Russia since the 90s, they eventually ended up in a spot where the "nearest adversary" was about to be sharing a border with them, so oh look here comes the buffer zones. Predictable as clockwork, and if the Western foreign relations elites hadn't been snorting coke 24/7 and shoving troons down our throats, they could have seen this and avoided the bloody fucking mess. Assuming they even wanted to avoid it.

I'm not entirely sure Vlad is gonna let Ukraine off the hook with just buffers anymore though. Zelensky offered to let NATO put IRBM nuclear missiles in Ukraine, close enough to Moscow for a first strike with no time for Russia to react. Its their version of the Cuban Missile Crisis and I don't think Russia is going to settle for shit that doesn't make that scenario impossible on their own terms. They're not gonna accept any more pinky promises when something like that is at stake.

I'm of the opinion they were trying to provoke it. Maidan didn't happen on its own.

They absolutely were. The fucking around our government was doing, with the biolabs and other offenses were hostile acts. Our military industrial complex and the deep state take actions that the american populace has had zero control of for 80 years, and they need to be dismantled.

Even without that, Biden desperately needed some kind of big distraction as they sold the country to the highest bidder

Russia already calls us agreement incapable, and they are not wrong. Our history of treaty compliance is shitty, and they know who really runs the West, and it ain't the citizens of same, that's for sure.

They kicked our asses in the intelligence war during the cold war.

There's a reason why people always use that fat toad Henry Kissinger's "To be America's ally is fatal" quote "out-of-context", because in-context it's never been true.

Lol.

Remember the first weeks of the conflict when Russian columns were about to surround Kyiv and capture it any day now?

I don't even think they could if nato actually jumped in either.

At this point, there are almost no NATO forces with teeth left. Everything has been thrown into the meat grinder, and there's almost nothing left.

All the expensive Western technology is is a force multiplier. A multiplier times 0 is still 0.

Not to mention this war has revolutionized the Russian military at this point into probably the most dangerous and battle hardened army on the planet.

While NATO and company stagnated over decades of desert insurgencey, the Russians have crash coursed the next stage of modern warfare and paid with it in blood.

This is why I was screeching when we started handing weapons systems over to the Ukrainians. Russia got a whole lot more out of dealing with HIMARS and the like than we got out of "field testing" them. And you know that China benefits as well, however sticky Russ-Sino relations may be.

if nato jumped in

Including the US (assuming we didn't have china to worry about and prep for), if we just took what we had and dumped it in, we could destroy russia and their military in a week. We'd take losses, don't get me wrong, but we could do it.

It's a stupid ass decision to make though, and I think the US should stay out of it. It's europes war to fight, if they want to panic about it.

They could have if Russia was really willing to take the gloves off. To put the "war" in perspective it would be like the state of Oklahoma trying to fight off the entire rest of the US military combined while China and, like, Iran were donating them some money and weapons. Yeah they could drag it out for a while and do some damage, but win? Or even survive in the long term? Absolutely laughable. Russia is bigger than the US and Ukraine is smaller than Texas.

In a few years I'd actually like to know what that was, they just kind of turned around and drove home. And no-one has any competent or realistic explanation as to what it was and why it went home.

Because they didn't seek to occupy and fight a guerrilla war in all of Ukraine. They sought to secure crimea by sea and land routes, and secure the water supplies delivered from the Dnieper river. The invasion was never about claiming a bunch of Ukrainian land. What would Russia do in kyiv anyway besides fight insurgency?

I remember Russia saying they wanted a land bridge to Crimea plus Crimea.

And that’s what they will have…

Bingo. 2014 was about Crimea. Its always been about the fleet based there and strategic control of the sea from crimea.

No because you saw a media promoted feint when the invasion was always about securing Crimea and the water supplies to it coming via canal from the Dnieper river.

The official maps of the "buffer zone" were up to Karkiv/Karkov. Likely avoiding the city for now.

If this map is from Medvedev, I think it is meant as a threat to get Ukraine to the peace table. And agree with the april 2022 Istanbul agreement. And to ensure a lasting peace, instead of a repeat of Ukraine's breaking of the Minsk accords.
Or it was made up by Ukraine to present the "Russian danger". So the get more money. "Coke is almost running out after all those meetings."

It may sound strange, but legally Russia is not at war with Ukraine. Not with its citizens. The current fights are about securing the safety of the Russian speaking population in the east. They live in the eastern areas that have legally separated from Ukraine.

This is also why Russia's army was mainly in the east. And clearing out the city-fortresses in these areas. These bunkers were built by NATO with our tax dollars, with the goal to hurt Russia as much as possible (as openly stated by US warmongers). They knew that killing Russian civilians would ultimately lead to an invasion from Russia.

Unlike the US (and EU), the military operations have to go through Russia's version of congress. Very bureaucratic. Hence the importance of agreements and accords.

There are still many artillery / rocket / drone bombardments from |Ukraine. (>700 Ukraine drones past week). The "safety zone" will only be active as long neo-nazi & Nato hostility is active. And the size will be determined on the range of these Ukraine/NATO attacks. Note that most equipment can not be used without full NATO support and the NATO operators who put in the coordinates and secret codes.

yes this is probably in response to Merz lifting restrictions on some long range missile stuff. "guess we'll need a deeper buffer zone to compensate"...

by Medvedev standards, it's also incredibly tame.

i mean, its Medvedev... Coming from him, I'm more surprised the "buffer zone" isnt drawn as a radioactive crater.
