It's just not enough to, y'know, simply make a fun game that people want to play and sell it to them, hopefully moving enough copies to cover costs and pay yourselves.
simply make a fun game that people want to play and sell it to them
They made Immortals Fenyx Rising a few years ago, realized they didn't want to bother marketing it and then just shoved an always online and cash shop into a Breath of the Wild clone and sent it out to die.
So its beyond simply not being enough. They actively chose to hamper any alternatives.
Honestly, I wonder why there aren't more Breath of the Wild style games. It's proven to be popular, and made a bit of money. Why don't we have a Castlevania Breath of the Wild. I know many say Elden Ring is like that, but it's not really as open or fun.
Yeah, a bunch of idiots in the comment section of the YouTube videos are saying "This is a major win for Ubisoft. They really care about their games, guys! Really!"

Fenix Rising is a very fun game. I don't have a Switch so this was as close as I could get to Zelda.
I got it for sub 20$ within a month of release, and for that price its well worth.
Plus I enjoyed the cringe humor narration and lack of durability mechanics, so it was better than Zelda personally.

Fenyx was barely made and yet I enjoyed it.
Because making a BOTW clone that sells requires talent and effort.
If I had the time, and some help, I'm sure I could do it... That's ambition speaking, please ignore it.
Ah, so this is why they announced those offline modes coming to some of their games.
Always annoys me when companies advertise legally-required obligations as special features.
