Edit: I just watched a recap video of his antics, and while debasing the comfort women statue was a serious faux pas, what's really getting him in legal trouble was when he posted a deepfake video he made of him making out with some Kpop star. Turns out simply having deepfakes is illegal in South Korea, and distributing them online is super illegal.
The worst thing he has done was rub his body in oil and twerk on the comfort women statues, statues to remind people of the bad japan has done to Korea with sexual slavery of young girls. And this nutjob twerks on such a statue. No wonder everyone wanted to see this guy get beaten(and he thankfully did see some street justice done).

I'm curious if he knew what that statue was for and thought he'd be maximumly edgy, or if he was ignorant and it was just a wacky coincidence that the statue he molested was to commemorate rape victims. Either way, I hope his daily canings are livestreamed to serve as an example.
I doubt he could understand the historical significance of it even if it was explained to him. Like a child handling a weapon, even if they "understand" what it does they cannot fully understand the weight of their actions because of their less developed brains.
