So all this tells me is Elon is willing to stifle freedom of speech -- something he pretended he supported -- in order to flood the US with more pajeets because he and his companies directly benefit from them (in the short term). Well, that's about as disgusting as it gets.

He's also said before that he'll censor things if it affects stock price.

So... that's a massive catch all.

You're reading a lot into this. Twitter algo has traditionally pitted people against each other. If a Wignat posts, it sends that post to a Kemet-retard.

Now, I enjoy that hostility. I figured it worked for getting engagement from other people. But they are free to change that.

Mr Musk doesn't need to make an announcement to shadowban people Twitter -- they do that.

He's doing this as he's criticising public figures in the UK who are accusing him of putting their lives in danger as a result of his criticism which will lead to new restrictions on free speech as they want an excuse to bring in the criminalisation of criticism under the guise of "safety".

Report his comments? Not like it'd do anything but it'd be funny if he responded to all the reports on his comments being 'harsh or inflammatory'.

"This includes posts criticizing politicians, celebrities or other influential individuals"

Time to gain me some youtube notoriety so my feelings will never be hurt on a separate platform I don't visit!

I actually prefer the Tyler the Creator take on things like this.

To become an "other influential individual" you'd have to put on a tiny hat, and grow a crooked nose.

What exactly does any of this even mean? What does 'the algorithm' do? Does this determine which order replies are displayed? If you have good boy points, your comments are shown first, thus you get the most visibility?

Yes and if you have a low enough social credit score you're completely invisible except to direct followers.

The duality of Twitter, where users are expected to self-curate their own algorithm based on who they follow and what they like but even here an overreaching corporate-mandated algorithm overwrites users' own preferences.

I don't use twitter, but if negativity is out, what about excessive, sarcastic positivity? Like "I'm so glad Musk wants to bring in hordes of jeets. Wages are way too high!"

I heard a counter point of why these changes are required that can be summed up with this statement: Assholes ruin everything

One of the reasons Gab isn't that big is because it's been maligned with a toxic user base screaming slurs and inflammatory rhetoric at everything. Normies who make up the majority of humanity don't want to see that so they prefer having algorithms that filter that out. The owner of Rumble used to be anti algorithm till he saw how people preferred the people just being asshats filtered out.

Humanity is one of the smartest/dumbest creatures on Earth in that we'll create inventive new things and then 5 minutes later will use it so horribly we'll need to put restrictions on it. Technically though with how it's worded currently, Elon is at risk of these rules with how he posts so I'm more inclined to believe asshats being asshats are the reason.

Yes that would be a popular theory, until I realised EVERYONE wants to have the ability to restrict assholes, including this place.

As when we were being swamped with pro child marriage/abuse posts and images of women being killed, how many meta posts did we make pleading for more moderators to be assigned here to deal with it?

Assholes being assholes is why we have restrictions, we just want free speech to apply to governmental actions since they're usually the biggest assholes of the lot.

Sorry but you are really naive if you think this isn't because of the H-1B visas. Why do you think he chose to suddenly penalize critisizms against public figures now when he's getting the most critisizm for his pro H-1B visa stance and has been throwing a tantrum over that critisizm , and not before?

Oh I believe this was ALREADY in the works to try to get Twitter no longer maligned with 'full of toxic people', the H-1B drama just pushed forward the implementation date. I go off this timeline in my head:

  1. Elon has Twitter work on rules and a algorithm to filter out asshats so Twitter is not maligned as toxic anymore

  2. Months pass and the H-1B drama happens

  3. In response, Elon decides to push forward the implementation of the new rules and algorithm ahead of schedule.

Now depending on if this affects Elon too due to his habit of negative posting, I can see this being revised in a way that his kind of posting is fine (which 90% of us would be ok then) just the ones screaming slurs all the time are screwed but yeah I believe this was in the works MONTHS before this drama happened.

Well we have to temper it a bit as remember they called Trump 'Hitler/Satan' for years and then try to act it wasn't their fault someone tried to assassinate him.

We call them incompetent, malicious, stupid, only in it for personal gain but getting into rhetoric to justify assassination is probably too far.

If this is not about the h1b thing and his hurt feels, then it's an attempt to keep whiny celebrities on the platform which I suspected they had planned for a while but held off on during the election. That's why the policy is directed at famous people. One of the things that makes twitter so popular is the famous or otherwise influential people there, and little people hanging on to their every word and thinking being here could get them 0.03% closer to getting noticed by sempai.

Recall from his initial purchase his statement that "he wanted to make 80% of the people happy most of the time". Forever chasing that overton window. He's not going to let us small time ideologues annoy the masses.

Unfortunately that's what the normies WANT, we are essentially like those guys on the corner with signs saying 'the end is neigh' to most normies so we WILL be sidelined by their request.

You want to influence them, be a content creator that can draw them in, not badgering them on social media like Twitter.

pedopajeet

It wasn't about the content, per se. It was about forum sliding. If you want a better comparison there was Imp1, whose ban was actually about the contents of his posts. Who defines who is being an asshole?

Ehh, the rule states that i can call anyone of no "importance" a idiot but not gov, so your whole spiel about filtering asshats is just retarded.

– SoctaticMethod1 -2 points 4 months ago +3 / -5

As it's currently stated, Elon is at the risk of these rules so probably going to get revised soon to just mean you can criticise everyone, you just can't go around calling them things that risk a defamation lawsuit.

Would be funny if Elon got filtered though if the rules were applied as is.

Gab has mute and block functions, had them long before X did, so this is a piss poor justification for why Gab "isn't that big." What Gab doesn't have is algorithms to fuck with your feed suggest similar people you might like to see.

Also, Gab is bigger than most of the alternative social media sites, so it isn't really that small.

The CIA doesn't need Gab. So they're not filled with fake users, opinion sliding bots, or false corporate ad buys.

Gab blocks all Israel IP addresses, too, which has drastically cut down on the fuckery on the platform.

Twitter has been the toxic zone. Other platforms do things to segregate people to reduce the visible hate. Reddit lets amateur mods run roughshod and make single-viewpoint subs. Facebook is heavily moderated externally. Discord has different servers. So kind of like reddit.

Twitter, at least originally before communities, had no zones. What you view is completely based on either getting an external link or the algo, which takes into account follows. In fact, the feed is basically there to piss you off. It wakes me up in the morning sometimes.

Oh yeah and then Mr Musk gets pushed to the top of everyone's feed, and he stirs controversy. He's getting paid for mouthing off. Almost nothing he says can be "bad". At worst boring. If he posts something wrong just to have people come in and reply "you're a retard" he makes money. Imagine if someone got paid for replies here.

tl;dr I agree with you

/Twitter blocked me from accidentally logging in without a VPN. What nice guys.

Assholes ruin everything

That's a given. It's what leftist felt when Elon took over Twitter as they migrated to Threads/Bluesky.

He chose what to ruin and what to allow, he's now malding the userbase he cultuvated is ruining his pro-pajeet circlejerk
