When the other mogwai pop out of Gizmo, they are already mischievous, and when they turn they become even more evil. It seems to imply that mogwai are already bad, and the transformation makes them worse. But Gizmo is extraordinarily kind. So if Gizmo was turned would he be evil, or would he still be kind?

I think the key thing is Gizmo actively refused to eat after midnight after the others sabotaged the clock. So the question is would he even become a gremlin in the first place if he has the self control to behave on his own?
I'm imaging a situation with someone, possibly a gremlin, force feeding him.
He would do evil, not be evil.
It kinda seems like a plot hole now, but I simply can't remember if Gizmo tried to warn the human about the clock.
He didn't warn Billy, but I think that was because he was also unaware of the damage to the clock.
I'm reminded of MasakoX's famous what-if on if Raditz turned good.
Raditz chose to keep his tail, thus was required to stay indoors whenever there was a full moon, to prevent himself from becoming that wild giant monkey. He didn't trust himself to be disciplined enough to control it.
Fun fact: In one of the fan projects about that, Dragon Ball R&R, Raditz was voiced by a then-unknown Kevin Afghani.
I think Giz certainly fears he'll turn. In the first flick, he obviously knows what's going to happen, but he has no way to warn the humans about Mogwai trickery.
I think the movie shows that Gizmo is innocent, but his water spawn are not. IMO this points to the unnaturally reproduced mogwai as lacking that impulse control (or soul). The gremlins are not precisely more evil, but they're faster and stronger which enables their acts to be more lethal.
Yeah, Gizmo must be the major outlier for mogwais.
I think the transformation can be viewed as an allegory for drug use. Some very kind people can go quite hostile and berserk on drugs, others would remain somewhat similar to their base selves. Most mogwai are baseline hostile, if harmlessly so, and the transformation merely gives them junkie strength and looks, which cause their harmless baseline hostility to become harmful. Gizmo would take on the looks of the junkie, but it would be a 50/50 if it went evil or stayed mostly the same beyond looks.
I’d like to think he would be a kind gremlin. Gremlins 2 has one of my favorite cameos ever with Hulk Hogan
great use of a fourth wall break, as well, lol.
I like the assertion that in a case of emergency grab the nearest meat head and let him sort it out.
I think Gizmo would be a kind gremlin as well
I don't think he would. Every other mogwai we've seen has been very obviously sinister, and we've seen about a dozen between the two movies. The whole gremlin species is basically mischief incarnate, and maybe in Gizmo's case it manifests in all the lousy things that keep happening to him. He may just be the bad luck Brian of the gremlin world.
If that's not the case, gizmo may just be defective in some way since we know nothing of his history.
Apparently, there was an animated show that delved into the history of the Mogwai. Take it with a grain of salt, because Expanded Universe nonsense, but apparently, they were created as part of a bet between two Asiatic deities regarding the capability of Mankind to be responsible. But the side opposing Humanity stacked the deck with the infamously fragile rules, and designed the Mogwai themselves to actively seek the failure state.
So in that sense, Gizmo is kind of defective in his benevolence.
A defect that benefits people, sounds like a politician to hope for
Evil
I would say he would be probably worse but as you mention the other mogwai where already bad so I would think he would not be evil
Not gonna lie, I came in here thinking you meant Gizmo from Teen Titans and was confused because he is both already a gremlin and evil.
Sorry it wasn't intentional, I know nothing about the Teen Titans.
Gizmo is just one of the villains and is either a dwarf or a literal child depending on adaptation. Its no deeper than that.
The spawned mogwai are evil because they raise themselves in the wild, far from the light of god and civilization. Gizmo could fall and do evil deeds, but in his heart he would know it is sin.
