Screencap From the February 1999 EGM Issue. Makes you wonder what changed. (media.kotakuinaction2.win)

We all look back at the '90s and 2000s era of gaming with fondness, but apparently some people were already what one would consider woke back in 1999.

Here are some virtue signalling SJWs being put in their place by far more level headed staff members from EGM at that time. The gist of EGM's response was that there was no reason to look for meanings about patriarchies and harmful stereotypes because developers simply didn't intend for games to be big, poetic social commentary.

The polar opposite of gaming media today. It makes you wonder what changed so suddenly.

I'd say readership numbers. I had a subscription to EGM back in the day. Online sites show up and eat up the readers.

Sure, it's probably a bit of money laundering, but websites are cheaper money laundering.

I can also point out the hard push for "art" in the mid 00's. It was really weird having people say GTAIV was great art. Then a claim that Gears of War was just a game, but this other game was art. It got tedious, especially when Animal Crossing is probably the highest form of art of that era.

This is the key. People forget that GamerGate was the response by a dying media format to preserve it's reader base through political division, that they hoped would create ideological loyalists, and future-proof them as more radically left generations of consumers were born.

The exact opposite has happened, not because Gamers defeated the media, but because economics favored the gamers more than the media.

I don't reject games as art, but there's clearly games that are not art, and that's okay.

Jew vs Jew arguing about which view should be pushed to Gentiles. Easy enough.

For one thing 25 years ago we could realistically expect the average person to read through a page full of text.

But the average 14 year old wouldn’t have understood this the same way he does at 40. That’s part of the problem here.

Boys born in 1999 are not the same kids who lived through 1999.

Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) was published by Ziff Davis from 1994 to 2009.

The same people who are currently gushing over Dragonage: Gender Wars

IIRC all the way back in 2001 Game Informer's 100th issue had a list of top 5 game babes and a woman asked for a list of top 5 game hunks, so they responded in the next issue by providing a list of top 7 game hunks "to make up for it." But when you turned to the page with the list you got the then-staff of GI.

By the issue after that they cucked out and apologized for being "insensitive" or w/e, instead of telling the karens to take a joke. With the kind of faggy promises to "do better" that are all too familiar to us today.

And I don't think they even managed to churn out a game hunks list anyways.

Well Jeremy Clark there is the reason it all changed, clearly (the faggot in the image)

That dude is likely a tranny at this point and tweeting about how he can't wait to fuck all the they/thems in Dragon Age whenever it officially releases

Mokujin from Tekken (a wooden training dummy) won the "Hottest Hunk" award over Solid Snake. Women and fags are outraged. Editor tells them to GTFO.

Reading “walls of text” is what we used to do for entertainment…

Gaming journalism was always quid pro quo, but at least they understood who paid the bills...
