When I revisit media from the 00s and 10s, I sometimes wonder why a certain actor or movie didn’t take off. Then when I look up the actor or movie in question, I find that the mainstream critics were overly harsh. The contrast with today’s critics, who wildly over-praise anything with a non-white lead, is pretty stark.
Knowing what we know now about the radical leftist orthodoxy that has dominated these spaces for decades - first in relative secret and now in far more brazen fashion - I sometimes wonder how many good actors and movies were squashed by the critic cartel simply for being white.
I guess I’ve lately started thinking less about all the subversive garbage being made and more about what has been denied us by those who control the levers of power in media. “We should be on Mars” applies to more than just space travel.
The gold standard for anti white messaging in film is Lethal Weapon 2.
Two cops in fucking California? Oh you better believe that they shove their dicks into South African politics.
There was a wave of anti apartheid in media at that time if I remember.
It's in the same vane as why James Bond under Timothy Dalton was less on the Soviets being the bad guys and more on the drug trade as cold War was easing and war on drugs were ramping up at the time.
i don't know how anyone with a brain can look at south africa now and say they're better off.
I don’t think most people know what South Africa is really like. Not in America anyway. Most people don’t know anything about anything other than what the screen people tell them.
what South Africa is really like
more of what South Africa is really like
and some more of what South Africa is really like
consume more of what South Africa is really like
Wizard Duels, my favorite!
There was that charity song "I'll Never Play Sun City"
Black Pilled did a video on Lethal Weapon 2. If you haven't seen it, you'd probably enjoy it
Thanks for the recommend.
I'm guessing he's not on YouTube anymore?
He is not. I listen on Odysee
Lethal Weapon 2 was one of my former favs that didn’t age very well. At least Mel is always entertaining.
I haven’t seen that in years. First one was good. I wanna say I remember another show or movie about South Africa
I assume you know it, but District Nine is about as good as a sci-fi film can get!
Haven’t seen it in years but definitely remember it
There was always some background noise of "us white men sure have a lot to apologize for huh guys" as far back as the 60s (possibly even earlier), but the message was never "white people, as a whole, are irredeemably evil and it's a good thing they're being genocided" like it is now until maybe 2012. It really kicked into high gear with Obama's second term when they felt confident that anti-white hate was socially acceptable.
Even when movies were guilt tripping us over muh water fountains and muh back of the bus, the overall message used to be that the past had bad parts but the present is bright. Now the past was a horrible nightmare and the present and future are also both horrible nightmares.
I probably saw it but it didn’t register until I constantly heard about “too many white males” in comics and video games and then it was like one day it was everywhere.
There’s probably some crossover with casting couch shenanigans as well. Used to be you assumed an overlooked actor was just someone who didn’t suck the chosen (hehe) dicks. Now being white is enough to deny you access. I guess I’m mostly curious about when the former turned into the latter. Probably a lot longer than we realize.
Sort of a side note: the same thing happened to masculine actors. We had a decent run of convincingly male MCU characters with the OG avengers. Who do they push on us now, though? Manlets like Timothy chalomet and Tom Holland.
That is a very good point. Cavill would’ve been a mega star in the 80s or 90s
Media was anti-White since at least the 60s because the demonized groups were always proxies for White men as a whole, just the presentation didn't make that as obvious as today. "We don't hate all Whites, just the { Nazis | KKK | racists | bad cops | religious zealots | corporate executives }".
This. It may have begun before that, but it was clear from the mid 60s.
Just look at westerns for example. How around 1964 with the rise of spaghetti Westerns the genre started to get subverted. Stories about good indians and poor Mexicans with evil white landowners.
European westerns were even more lefty, some were straight up commie revolutionary propaganda.
Agreed.
For anyone curious as to a specific example of what acp_k2win is talking about, just look at the third film in the Harry Palmer series, Billion Dollar Brain. It was literally about how evil, Nazi-loving, racist White Americans were plotting sleeper cells to kill Commies around the world. The film lavishes the Commies with all the heroics and paints the anti-Commies as super-villains.
It was such a shame because Funeral In Berlin is one of the best espionage films ever made. But the subterfuge in media propaganda has been quite rife since the 60s.
Lots of people have fond memories of The Matrix, myself included, but look how anti-White it was even back then. The protagonists are a racial mutt, an androgynous girl boss, a black savior, and a minor character who was originally written as a tranny (Switch). The bad guys are exclusively White men, i.e. Cyrus and the Agents. Yes, funny how nobody on the Left complains about the Agents lacking in diversity. If The Matrix were released today, it would get roasted for being too woke.
